Abu Dhabi: With the approaching UAE National Day, the Indian Social and Cultural Centre (ISC) is gearing up for its annual three-day India Fest that is expected to attract more than 40,000 people this year to the Capital.
 
The show will be held from December 4 to 6 at a specially setup venue adjacent to ISC, where ample arrangements have been made for parking, said ISC general-secretary R. Vinod.
 
Being organised to celebrate the UAE National Day, the event seeks to entertain the masses, said D. Natarajan, president of ISC.
 
The show, which promotes Indian culture, business, and cuisine, is a mini Global Village, D. Natarajan said, and that’s why, this year several embassies have shown their interest in taking part in the show, as a large number of people from other nationalities visit the show.
 
This year, over 100 artists from India and locally are expected to perform and main attractions at the event include Muthukad Magic Show, enthralling performance by Thaikkudam Bridge-Band and other local bands. Visitors can enjoy folklores from regional states, western dance forms, and various musical bands etc.
 
India Fest has enjoyed the support of the Embassy of India, in organising the mega entertaining event and this time around, they will bring an eight-member dance troupe from north eastern state of India, Assam, to entertain the crowds, said D. Natarajan.
 
Since the show is growing each year, this year over 300 pavilions will give Indian entrepreneurs an opportunity to showcase their products and services, he said. There would be 63 stalls reserved for general businesses and 27 have been allocated for selling food items to visitors.
 
This time India Fest will have more stalls, better arrangements and unique performances lined-up with a strategic improvement in the entire outlook, design and feel of the festival compared to previous seasons, says D. Natarajan. Last year, over 30,000 people came from across the country to attend the event.
 
This year interest has been received from a wide variety of companies to set up their stalls. These include banks, exchange houses, educational institutions, real estate companies, boutiques, travel and tourism firms, stores selling cosmetics, toys, books and paintings and other consumer products.
 
The income generated from the event is spent on the social work the ISC is involved in. Last year a big sum was donated to the Prime Minister’s Fund for floods victims and other charities, said Sudhir Kumar Shetty, chief operating officer of the UAE Exchange, one of the sponsors of the event.
