Inter faith wedding : Couple assaulted


Mangaluru : In yet another case of inter faith wedding a Hindu boy married a girl belonging to another community in  Arya Samaj on Friday, November 14.

The couple are Sri Rama Sene activist Madhusudhan  and Zahida. After the wedding was solemnised Zahida’s name was changed to Vijayalakshmi.


Zahida and Madusudhan who were in love from the past five years sought the help of Sri Rama Sene to arrange their wedding. Accordingly on Friday the couple got married according to the Arya Samaj rituals.

An visibly elated couple also offered prayers at Koragajja temple near Urwa Market.
However the news didnt go down that well with Vijayalakshmi’s relatives who are said to have assaulted the couple. Fearing for their life the couple then went to Barke Police Station along with few activists of Hindu Outfit.

This is second such incident that has occurred in Mangaluru. On October 16 Bajrang Dal activist Roshan Shetty was married to a catholic girl Sonia D’Souza. However the wedding didnt lasted only for four hours with the girl accusing Roshan for forcing her into getting married. Cases were also booked against  the activists.  


Deralakatte forced sex case : Court rejects bail plea of three

Mangaluru : Mangaluru’s Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court and the Special Court for Sexual Assault Cases has rejected the bail plea of the three accused in the 2013 Deralakatte forced sex case.

First accused Hussain alias Safwan from Haleyangady, second accused Sameer from Katipalla and the fifth accused Nawaz alias Praveen from Kairangala on December 18, 2013 had allegedly kidnapped a male and a female student of a private college in Deralakatte, forced them to indulge in sexual act and videotaped it. Not alone that, they also demanded a sum of Rs 25 lac from the students to ensure that the video doesn’t go viral.

Justice Pushpanjali Devi, after checking the bail applications rejected to grant bail. Earlier, the court had refused the bail plea of another accused named Iqbal Harris. None of the eight accused in the crime are granted bail.

On December 18, 2013 at around 11 pm, the two students were sitting in their car outside a bar and restaurant. The gang allegedly approached and blindfolded them and one of the eight drove the car to a house in an isolated spot. The students were forced to have sex, and when they refused, the gang waved weapons and threatened to kill them. Afraid with the threat, the students did as they were told, and their obscene shots were captured in mobile phones. They were threatened not to reveal the incident.

The girl, however, took courage and lodged a complaint at Konaje police station.


Hospital, wedding hall thieves in police net


Ullal : A gang of three men executing theft specifically in wedding halls and hospitals have been nabbed by the Ullal police on Friday, Nov 14.

A bike and a gold chain have been confiscated from the trio.

Srijith (20) from Dasaramoole,  Sachin (19) from Acchukodi-Pachanady and Akarsh Pillai (19) from Moodushedde are the arrested.

Srijith, who is the head of the gang had stolen bag of a medical student from K S Hegde Medical College, Derlakatte recently and took away her ATM and drew Rs 10,000 from her account. The police who started investigation saw the the rushes of the CCTV camera installed in the premises and identified a bike on which Srijith had fled.

Using the same bike, the trio had landed at a wedding hall at Manjeshwar. They lured a kid with ice cream and took away a gold chain that the child was wearing.

When the CCTV camera at the wedding hall also featured the same bike, the police traced the bike down and nabbed the trio.

The trio had revealed that they had been targeting only hospitals and wedding halls and have stolen over 100 ATM cards, laptops etc.

Investigations are on.


Parents abandon three-year-old girl


Udupi : When the nation is celebrating Children’s Day, a three year child is left in gloom at Manipal. A girl child has been abandoned by her parents at the Children’s Department in KMC Hospital, Manipal.

The kid is said to be physically and mentally disabled. Her parents left a bottle of milk and a chit on the bed stating they are poor and are unable to look after their kid. They have also urged the hospital authorities and the public to provide her relevant treatment.

As per court order, the child has been handed over to Children Welfare Committee’s ‘Krishnanugraha Foundation’. Manipal police are on the search of her parents.

Youth found guilty of raping 69-year-old

Mangaluru : The Sixth Additional District and Sessions court on Friday, November 14, found a 25-year-old youth guilty of raping and robing a 69 year old lady. The quantum of punishment will be pronounced on November 18.

The accused is Nagesh, resident of Chintamani in Chikkaballapur.

On July 14, 2013, Nagesh had raped the old lady at her house in Saripalla and also fled away with her gold ornaments worth Rs 50,000 and cash amounting to Rs 5,000.

Nagesh was working as mason of the house which was being built by the lady’s daughter.

The locals who came to know of the incident had caught him and handed over to the police. A case was registered in Mangaluru Rural Police.

Police nab trio during patrolling

Kaup : Kaup police, in the wee hours of Thursday, November 13 arrested three in connection with a theft case.

Police sources claimed that the trio were awaiting for a transport near Babbuswamy Daivasthana, Udyavar after the theft.

The arrested are Mohan (35), a resident of Padil, Harish Poojary (29), a resident of Ambalapady and Sridhar Bhat (48) from Pandubettu.

A couple of antique pots valued at Rs 15,000, utensils, iron boxes and grills are among the items recovered from the trio which they had allegedly stolen from the house of a person named Anwar Ahmed.

They were nabbed while Kaup police station ASI Jayasheela and staff were on night patrolling. The arrested were then produced before the court.
