Muthalik is propagating cruelty : Poojary

Mangaluru : Lashing out at Chief of Sri Rama Sene Pramod Muthalik for asking people to chop the hands of the rapists before subjecting them to law, Former Union Minister B Janardhan Poojary said Muthalik is propagating cruelty by making such statements.

Addressing the press persons here on Monday, November 17, Poojary said nobody should take law in their hands.

Has Muthalik forgotten the way Sene activists treated women during the infamous Mangalore Pub Attack (2009), questioned Poojary.

If lawyers are found to be exploiting the loopholes of the law to help accuse to walk free, then such lawyers should be subjected to stringent punishment. The Police on other hand should ensure that they will collect all the evidence of rape incidents being reported in region, he added.

Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign visits, Poojary said "what is the use of visiting foreign countries to talk about women empowerment and protecting women. The PM should instead visit various states and create awareness and reach out to women in distress. Let him come to Mangaluru and take a stock of the situation."

Leelaksha Karkera, Harikrishna Bantwal were present among others.

KRRS flays move to ban Kambla

Udupi: Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha while welcoming the move of the Apex Court to ban using of animals for sports and entertainment, has condemned the move of the Court of banning Kambla.

Highlighting the ignorance of the Animal Welfare Board of India in the case, the Sangha has said that the Board has moved to the court without understanding the background and importance of the sport.

“Kambla is not just a traditional sport, but it incorporates in it several crucial agricultural procedures, which have been made unseen by the Board while moving to the Court.  Kambla is an activity which prepares the agricultural land for farming. The sport upholds unity among the farmers. Further, the animal which participates in the sport is taken care of in a luxurious manner throughout the year,” said Sangha State Vice-President Vijay Kumar Hegde

He said that Kambla is a major source of entertainment for the farmers. Kamblas were the events where the farmers used to meet each other, discuss farming techniques, undertake cattle trade etc during ancient time. However, off late it has only reduced to the state of being a sport.

“The tag of ‘violent sport’ is demeaning in nature,” he said adding that ban on Kambla will have a devastating effect on farming.

“The buffaloes which are taken care of in a doting manner throughout the year are used for sports on one day. If this is violence, then the Board should first try and ban using horses for rich man’s sports and gambling, taming elephants and also stop using animals in circus shows,” he demanded adding that slaughtering of animals across the country, transporting animals in caged vehicles, caging animals at home and zoo, using electric fencing to ward off animals,  using tranquilizers to capture animals, whipping animals while ploughing and various other ‘violence’ meted out at animals should be stopped by the Board immediately.
