State Sponsored Reconversion by Non State Actors?
RSS Spend Rs. 50 lac per month on Re-conversion
Putting of Goddess Saraswati in Christian Schools
2.73 lac Minorities Re-converted in Braj, alone
Development Without Social Harmony?

The CSF, India’s activist community NGO takes strong exception to the reported utterances of the certain RSS functionaries " to reconvert 5000 minority families on Christmas day " and calls upon the government to investigate the matter and prevent communal disharmony, which has far-reaching effects.

"The Hindu fundamentalists seem emboldened with the new government, which is giving India and the BJP a bad image in India and abroad. We therefore appeal to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi to caution the RSS and restrain it from stirring up communal frenzy. We have no issue with any one changing religion, but not under duress or through inducement, as has been proved.

Further, the Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot said that the government was not in favour of granting schedule caste status to Dalit Christian and Muslims, which is why these re-conversions are taking place. Those who re-converted are from the lower castes or extremely poor, and government needs to focus on this strata of Indian society, rather than use them as fodder for social engineering" said Joseph Dias, the CSF general secretary.

According to Joseph Dias, within months of the NDA taking over, incidents of ’ghar wapsi’ have increased, especially in UP and the Christians even in the national capital are unsafe, with a church burnt, another stoned and yet another attacked. The RSS itself has put out figures of 2.73 lac minorities being reconverted in the Braj area of UP alone.

Reports reaching The CSF point out that thousands of families, especially in Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Mathura, Firozabad, Etah, Meerut, Mainpuri and Uttarakhand are unable to freely practice their faith.

"We have called upon the community all over the country and NRIs to observe a Black Christmas, with prayers that Indian Christians may truly have freedom of religion. The danger is that such unchecked and encouraged communal activities by non-state actors pose an imminent danger to the development agenda which got the BJP government elected. If the government and secularists remain silent to give impetus to the Hindutva forces, then the day will not be far, when India will be reduced to another Afghanistan, Bangladesh or Pakistan", The CSF general secretary observed.

Joseph Dias also cautioned that many of the minorities who had voted for the BJP, which otherwise would not have been able to win the elections, will be compelled to turn away from the party. Christians being a peace loving community have their religious sentiments hurt with such statements coming from prominent BJP politicos.

"The timing and frequency of such provocations makes it suspect that the government is only for Hindus, of Hindus and by Hindus, with not even lip service being paid to minorities. Such governance is bound to draw the ire of the developed nations, who presently have a good opinion of the establishment, but are also committed to human and minority rights. It is well documented fact that Indian Christians, individually and as a community have contributed immensely towards the progress of the nation and should not be treated as second-class citizens. The re-converts will vitiate the social atmosphere and be used by the majority in the war against minorities", The CSF general secretary added.

Christmas’14: RSS Plans `Reconversion’ of 5,000 Minority Families

New Delhi, December 10, 2014: BACK INTO FOLD Christian families belong to Valmiki Samaj who are feet of Hindu society. We are incomplete without them: Aligarh RSS pracharak Rajeshwar Singh.

This Christmas, the RSS plans to convert at least 4,000 Christian and 1,000 Muslim families into Hinduism under what it calls the `Ghar Wapsi’ (returning home) programme. Organisers claim the event in Aligarh will be one of the biggest ever conversion programmes. Among the prominent faces at the event will be firebrand BJP MP Yogi Adityanath.

It has chosen the city , Aligarh, and the day, December 25, carefully.“Aligarh was chosen because it’s time we wrest the Hindu city from Muslims. It is a city of brave Rajputs and their temples on whose remains Muslim institutions have been established,“ said RSS regional pracharak Rajeshwar Singh.

Christmas was chosen as the day for conversion because the event is a “shakti pariksha“ (test of strength) for both religions, said Singh. “If their religion is better, they can stop them. It is a test for both of us. If they come to us on Christmas, it is the biggest rejection of the faith.“

The families have already been identified from 40 slums in Aligarh, Bulandshahr and Hathras, Singh said. “The 4,000 Christian families belong to the Valmiki samaj. The Valmiki samaj is the feet of the Hindu society . We are incomplete without them.“

The 1,000 Muslim families who have been identified for the conversion are descendants of Thakurs and Brahmins who have been convinced of their “lost pride“, Singh claimed. RSS workers said the conversion was an annual event but it has been low profile all these years.“Now many more people want to join us. This time we didn’t indulge in any threat. We just had to make people understand,“ said Pankaj Singh, an RSS worker in Aligarh. Many see the instances of ``Ghar Wapsi’’ programmes organised by sangh outfits as an indication of their intolerance for minorities. They don’t expect them to be treated as equals once they reconvert.

“On one hand they say they will treat the converts as equals and on the other hand they believe in Sanatana Dharma under which these converts will always be treated as outcastes,“ said Roop Rekha Verma, a former Lucknow University V-C who runs Saajhi Duniya, a not-for-profit working on communal harmony in UP.

Converting to Islam or Christianity has not necessarily reformed lives of Dalits, but going back to Hinduism will mean they will “be used as fuel against minorities“, she added. The Sangh has outsourced all arrangements of the event to be held at Maheshwari College in the city to the Bajrang Dal.

“There will be a havan anushtaan and use of Ganga water to purify the converts. Pictures of Hindu deities will be distributed to them. We will tell them methods of our worship and give them our religious books,“ said Pruthivi Kumar, a Bajrang Dal associate in the region and in charge of making arrangements.

UP: RSS spends monthly Rs. 50 lac on reconversion.
2.73 lac reconverted in Braj alone

Excerpts: "The RSS people assured us that they will provide us better place to live, better food and schooling for my grandsons. I don’t mind change of religion, as religion doesn’t give us food to eat."
- a reconvert

Rajeshwar Singh told TOI that RSS spends Rs 50 lakh every month on conversion of an average 1,000 families. "It spends Rs 8-10 lakh per month on fuel costs alone in west UP," he added.

"We have re-converted 2.73 lakh Muslims and Christians in Braj region that includes Agra, Fatehpur Sikri, Mathura, Firozabad, Etah, Meerut, Mainpuri and Uttarakhand since 2003.

Singh also claimed that RSS has taken possession of as many as 60 churches across the state, where no Christians worship now, "as they have all been re-converted to Hinduism".

"Ek din in girijagharo ki deewarein bhi gir jayengi aur hamara desh sirf hinduon ka hoga (one day these churches will crumble and our country will belong to the Hindus alone)," he added.

"We will not let the conspiracy of the church or mosque succeed in India. The Hindu wave has just begun. In 10 years we will convert all Christians and Muslims", Singh said
