Dubai’s largest jewellery outlet with 600 kilos of gold to open

160 kg giant gold bar, golden replica of Burj Khalifa among unique items on display

The largest jewellery outlet in Dubai will open its doors to customers on December 20, 2014.  Sprawling over 9,500 square feet in the heart of Dubai Gold Souq, Malabar Gold and Diamonds showroom will be inaugurated by Bollywood’s Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Claimed to be the largest jewellery outlet in Dubai, the Indian jewellery retailer boasts a wide variety of designs and ornaments weighing around 600 plus kilograms.

Speaking to ‘Emirates24|7’, MP Ahmed, Chairman of Malabar Group, the parent company of Malabar Gold and Diamonds, said: “We have 123 showrooms in India and the Middle East and our 123rd branch in Gold Souq is the biggest jewellery outlet here. We have people of ten different nationalities speaking 31 different languages,  jewellery from 10 countries and the finest and rarest collection from India, Malaysia, Turkey, Singapore, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Thailand, Italy, Spain and Bahrain in gold and diamonds to suit the taste of both resident and international customers.

 “Malabar Gold has been aggressively growing in terms of the number of outlets and volume of sales, which soars during Dubai Shopping Festival, a period when gold raffle promotions attract consumers to try their luck. Malabar Gold is taking part in the making of the world’s longest jewellery chain, ‘Dubai Celebration Chain’ in 22-carat.

“While a normal jewellery outlet stocks gold ornaments of 50 kgs to 60 kgs, our new showroom in the Gold Souq will have ornaments weighing more than 600 kgs.”

He added that one floor of the multi-storey building will be used specially for customers from GCC countries and one floor for wholesale customers.

“We have bigger outlets in Chennai, Bangalore and Calicut in India, but in the Middle East, this is our biggest outlet,” added Ahmed.

The jewellery chain originally from Calicut, Kerala, is now branching out to new markets including the US and Europe. 

Among the various attractions in the showroom is a golden replica of Burj Khalifa in 18 carat gold weighting 22.65 kg; a 24 carat gold bar weighting 16 kg; and a golden attire weighing 1.075 kg, which took 30 expert craftsman 3,600 hours to complete.

“Both the golden replica of Burj Khalifa and the other special items on display are made in India. We are not in a position to sell the replica because the original designer of Burj Khalifa has some restrictions on selling the replicas,” said Ahmed.

Shamlal Ahmed, Managing Director, Malabar Gold and Diamond, International Operations, said: “Larger showrooms will appeal more to customers because they need more choices and options. Dubai has seen an increasing demand for gold and diamond jewellery from its residents and tourists alike.”

The new showroom displays skillfully crafted jewellery in 24, 22, 21 and 18 carats in traditional as well as contemporary designs.  A spectacular collection of both uncut and polished diamond jewellery, certified by GIA/IGI from around the world, too, is showcased.

The inaugural offers for the new showroom include a Malabar Gold and Diamonds Festival, offering customers a chance to win a total of 250,000 gold coins and up to Dh2 million in cash refund. For every purchase of gold jewellery of above Dh2,000, customers get a scratch-and-win coupon, through which they stand a chance to win up to 100 gold coins.
