Following the robbery at Kaveri Grameena Bank that created a furore on Monday, anxious customers made a beeline to the bank on Tuesday, grilling the officials about the fate of their gold and cash.

It can be recalled that the burglars had decamped with 61 kg gold and Rs 14 lakh cash from the Bank, in Hirisave, Hassan district, after drilling the wall and breaking open the strong room with heavy objects, on Sunday night. According to police, more than 800 people had pledged their gold and availed loan.

They were seen surrounding the bank manager and senior officials seeking information about the future course of action, the possibilities of getting their jewellery back, and whether police were able to trace anybody, and other details.

Compensation

The officials were seen patiently pacifying the customers and explaining that their pledged gold had been stolen, and assured that the bank was insured, and that they would be compensated with the amount based on their value of the gold.

Bank Manager Prabhu told Deccan Herald that the bank would function as usual from Wednesday. Apart from appointing security guards, the bank has followed all the guidelines issued by the Police department, he said.

The records of all the customers who had availed loans is being verified. As core banking network is in place, the customers will not face any problems, said senior officer Chandrashekar.

Hirisave branch manager Madhu and other officials were verifying the documents and preparations were being made to begin transactions from Wednesday.

According to police sources, Hirisave bank robbery is the biggest ever bank robbery in the State, where 61 kg gold and Rs 14 lakh cash was stolen.

ASP Rashmi and others visited the spot and sought additional information from the bank officials on Tuesday. Following the robbery, police have issued notices to other banks in the district to improve the security measures.
