Court order brings eight families to street
Mangaluru : As a result of the court order the residents of eight out of 31 houses located at Gatti Bitthal, Bhavanti Street here were evicted on Thursday, January 29.
As per the primary investigation a civil court, had in 1999, ordered the families to vacate. Beleaguered with this, the families approached the court and the case remained in the court till Wednesday, January 28 this year.
The said land belongs to one Suresh Bhat and his Mumbai-based partners.
In accordance with the order, court officials as well as the land owners arrived at the spot on January 29 and demanded the families to vacate immediately.
The families urging for some more time, informed the land owners that they were informed about the court order last night and they would come to streets as they could not find alternatives on such short notice.
The affected residents also alleged Suresh Bhat of fraud. An individual informed that Bhat had promised them that the land would be transferred to their name had they paid a certain amount. Accordingly 13 families had paid him a cumulative sum of Rs eight lac, however Bhat did not live by his promise. Their allegations fell on dumb ears as they did not have any evidence backing their claims.
On the other hand, Bhat denied the allegations and also said that he had given them one-and-a-half years’ time to vacate the houses, however they hung on.
Human rights officials who arrived at the spot opined that though court order cannot be questioned, the families should have been given intimation in advance.
Kumar Malemar of Sri Rama Sene too arrived at the spot and urged the land owner to give the families time till April. However, Bhat, his partners and the court officials stood firm on their words and evacuated the families.
