Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s younger brother Prahlad on Tuesday attacked the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government saying it had failed to live up to the expectations of the people.
He said the the Central government lacked the “will” to address people’s problems. He warned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that it will meet the same fate it did in the Delhi Assembly polls, in the upcoming elections in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh if it continues to turn a “blind eye” to people’s problems. "You worked hard to ensure that it (BJP) gets majority in the Lok Sabha and still you have to come to Jantar Mantar to stage a dharna. I think it is a failure of the NDA government," he said, participating in a protest organised by the All India Fair Price Shops Federation.

Prahlad, who is vice president of the Federation, clarified to the media that his participation in the protest against Modi government should not be considered as “revolt” against his brother. “What I am doing is not revolt of a brother against another brother. For me my brother is worthy of worship. I respect him. But I am in a profession and had to come to this platform to raise my voice before my brother." he said, replying to questions.
Modi’s brother had recently participated in a similar protest organised by the Federation in Mumbai, pressing its charter of demands.

The Federation wants the government to increase the existing percentage of beneficiaries in rural areas under Food Security Act, hike the commission on items distributed through ration shops and channelise kerosene supply entirely through the public distribution system.

The fair price shop owners staged demonstrations across Delhi, in support of their demands.

“If the party turns a blind eye, then what BJP faced in Delhi will repeat in UP and Bihar. I am a member of the BJP but I will protest against wrong policies of the national parties,” Prahlad said, addressing the gathering at Jantar Mantar.

He also made a veiled attack on the Modi government on the issue of corruption, saying almost all national political parties nurture graft.

He, however, maintained that neither Modi was “worthless” nor his government.
"Hum ye nahin kehte ye sarkar nikkami hai, Narendra Modi nikkame hain (we do not say that this government is worthless, Narendra Modi is worthless). But it (Modi government) does not have the will to address our problems," he said.
