With Virat Kohli getting out after making just 1 run agaist Australia in the World Cup semi-finals, Twitter community erupted with jokes and jibes against his girlfriend Anushka Sharma.

The “NH10” actor was among the spectators to cheer for Kohli and the Indian team and looked disappointed when Kohli returned to pavilion early.

Anushka, 26, became the butt of all jokes and some nasty tweets soon after Virat got out.

“I knew Anushka landing up in Sydney was a bad idea! #AUSvIND #CWC15,” a female user wrote.

“Worst mistake Anushka Sharma made in her life was to be in Sydney for the Semi’s! Ab poora desh nahi maaf karne waala! ??,” another offered.

“Feeling sorry for Anushka. Her boyfriend let her down big time! ??:”

“What did Anushka Sharma tell Virat Kohli before he went out to bat today? ‘Virat, I want you here in 5 minutes.’ :D #CWC15 #AUSvsIND,” a user joked while another wrote, “True Love = Anushka Sharma travelling to Sydney to see Virat Kohli score 1 run. #CWC15.”

But there were some sane voices too who countered the trolls for blaming the actress for Kohli’s performance.

“So what if #AnushkaSharma is in Sydney to watch the match. @imVkohli’s performance is to be blamed. Not #Luck, you idiots. #IndvsAus,” wrote a user.

Unfair to blame Anushka for Kohli’s poor form: Ganguly

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly on Thursday lashed out at people who attacked Anushka Sharma for Virat Kohli’s failure with the bat in the cricket World Cup semi-final against Australia, saying that it showed their immaturity.

After the actor was attacked by the twitterati, Ganguly said it’s sad to see the mindset of such people.

“What wrong Anushka has done? She had only gone to see a cricket match like the families of other players. It is unfair to blame her for Kohli’s performance. It is the immaturity of people (criticising Anushka),” said the former captain.

“When two people are in love, there is nothing wrong in that,” Ganguly added.

Kohli scored just one run as India were thrashed by Australia by 95 runs in the second semi-final of the cricket World Cup at the SCG.

Ganguly had some plain talk about Indian team’s weakness and he came down hard on the likes of Ravindra Jadeja who came a cropper in the tournament.

“We have some holes in the Indian team and we need to work on them. You can cover up things but all these are issues for the Indian team to be a better side so that they can do better in the next World Cup. We have to fix these weaknesses,” he said.

“To be frank, Mohit Sharma does not look the class of Umesh Yadav or Mohammed Shami though many think he is a great potential. And Ravindra Jadeja has to either get the wickets or score runs at number seven and he has not done either.

“That is the difference of India as compared to other countries. You see Australia has the likes of Glenn Maxwell or Mitchell Johnson who can take wickets and score runs at the tail of the batting order. We don’t have them,” he added.

Dalmiya lauds India’s ‘outstanding’ WC performance

The disappointment of a semifinal exit notwithstanding, BCCI President Jagmohan Dalmiya on Friday congratulated the Indian cricket team for its “stupendous” World Cup performance, saying that Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s men put up an outstanding show.

India, the defending champions, were knocked out of the World Cup following a 95—run semifinal loss to Australia in Sydney yesterday.

Dalmiya said despite the defeat, the team must be lauded for a seven—match unbeaten streak leading up to the last—four stage.

“I congratulate the entire Indian cricket team for having played some outstanding cricket in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. They have indeed displayed some admirable skills while playing the game in its true spirit, and thereby, bringing joy to millions of cricket fans,” Dalmiya said in a statement.

“In spite of the disappointment due to the loss in the semi—final, the fact that the impending generation has showed the desired potential to take Indian cricket to greater heights is quite gratifying,” he added.

BCCI secretary Anurag Thakur also praised the team for its overall good performance.

“Being present at the venue and having witnessed the match, I was privy to the excitement and joy that our Indian team brings to the spectators,” Thakur said.

“I take this opportunity to thank all our fans across the world and especially those who were present for the semi—final and supported Team India. The BCCI truly appreciates the sustained efforts of our team and congratulates them for their outstanding performance while upholding the values which have long embodied the game of cricket,” he added.
