Maharashtra: One of the Total Sanitation advertisement featuring Vidya Balan shows the protagonist introducing Priyanka Bharati, a new bride who dared to leave the house of her in-law just because it lacked a ’Shouchalay’.
 
The advertisement can now show Chaitali Dileep Galakhe from Akola who has scripted a new history.
 
When Chaitali D Galakhe’s marriage was fixed with Devendra Makhode of Yavatmal, the Galakhe family was shocked to see that their daughter is going to be wedded to a family which has no toilet.
Soon the Galakhes decided to gift something different to their daughter and thus on the day of the wedding a prefabricated toilet stole the show.
 
With a water closet, a wash-basin and mirror standing around one foot above the ground, the toilet became the centre of attraction on the wedding that solemnised on Friday.
 
Chaitali said that when the wedding was finalised she had no idea that her in-law’s house did not have a toilet. Hence, when her family asked her if she wanted a television set, a washing machine or gold, she opted to ask for a toilet!
 
Dilip Galakhe, father of the bride, who first thought that the demand was bizzare, soon came to understand that it was a must to keep his child happy.
 
A pre-fabricated toilet was ordered for Chaitali from a local manufacturer, which cost a hefty Rs.18,000.
 
But, when the manufacturer casually enquired the need for the pre-fabricated toilet, he was pleasantly surprised. Since he was a volunteer for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan, the manufacturer brought down the cost to Rs.12,000.
Though the locals and relatives scorned the Galakhes for their wedding gift to their daughter, Chaithali Galakhe has now become a role model. The young girls who attended the wedding say that they too shall enquire whether the boy’s family has  proper toilet facilities or not when their wedding is fixed and they would make sure that their demand for toilet is met.
