Bajaj Electricals stands committed to encourage all its stakeholders to lead a healthy and addiction free life with a focus on spreading the message on tobacco cessation and awareness amongst all.

Shekhar Bajaj, Chairman & Managing Director, has personally led the initiative in having a contact programme with Employees to give up the habit of consuming Tobacco in any form and have achieved 99% success. The company’s goal is just not Tobacco free work environment but also tobacco free work force. Last few years Bajaj Electricals have taken this initiative to the factories and the neighbour hood through NGO partners like Salaam Mumbai Foundation and Muktangan.

Last year BEL created a pool of employees who volunteered as Anti-Tobacco Crusaders and worked towards spreading awareness on the ill effects of tobacco to Schools, colleges, ITI’s, villages, vendors and different institutions.

On the occasion of World No Tobacco Day this falls on 31st May each year BEL works towards promoting healthy living and abstaining from tobacco consumption. As such, each year in India alone, tobacco causes over 10 lac deaths. 86% of the world’s oral cancer patients are found in India alone and have a strong link to the consumption of Tobacco.

On World No Tobacco Day 2015 Bajaj Electricals will undertake following activities in Mumbai apart from smaller initiatives in branches across the country:

• Anti-Tobacco Campaign with BEST and NGO Salaam Bombay Foundation at BEST Depot Wadala: May 29th 2015:

BEST runs a total of 3,600 buses, ferrying 4.8 million passengers over 365 routes. This makes them the partner of choice when a large scale awareness campaign is planned.

This year Salaam Bombay Foundation has approached BEST in association with Bajaj Electricals to collaborate on an anti-tobacco campaign across Mumbai. 25 BEST buses will carry six Anti-Tobacco message flex panels on both sides (image attached) along with tags (image attached) tied to the seats inside, and these buses will travel for a month on popular routes in the city to highlight the issues related to tobacco.

The event will be attended by State Transport Minister, BEST Chairman and GM. Representative of Salaam Bombay & Head CSR, Bajaj Electricals Ltd. There will be performance by Salaam Bombay Children, followed by addressing the crowd by the dignitaries  and then flagging off the buses with the anti-tobacco messages.

•  Online Campaign for promoting anti-tobacco message, May 30th 2015
• Launch of an educational film “Akeli” to make public in general aware against addiction particularly tobacco and alcohol. The film has been co-created with the NGO Muktangan May 30th 2015. The film will be put on popular YouTube site apart from FB and Twitter of Bajaj Electricals.
