Two Indians among Kuwait mosque blast victims
In this June 27, 2015 photo, thousands of Sunnis and Shias from across Kuwait take part in a mass funeral procession for those killed in a suicide bombing that targeted the Shia Imam Sadiq Mosque a day earlier at the Grand Mosque in Kuwait City.
They have been identified as Rizwan Husain and Ibne Abbas from Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district and Ambedkar Nagar respectively.
Two Indians were among the 26 people killed in the Islamic State suicide attack at a Shia mosque in Kuwait City, according to the Indian Embassy, which asked Indian nationals to take precautions for their safety and security in Kuwait.
“The Embassy regrets to inform about the death of two Indian nationals in the bomb blast at Imam Sadiq Mosque in Kuwait on June 26,” the Indian mission said in a statement.
Both the victims — Rizwan Husain (31) and Ibne Abbas (25) — were taking part in the prayers when they died, it said.
While Husain, a resident of Walipur village in Sultanpur district of U.P., was working as a watchman in the Mosque, Abbas from Jalalpur in Ambedkar Nagar of U.P. was employed as driver.
Their bodies would be buried in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf as per their family’s wishes, sources said.
Indian Ambassador to Kuwait Sunil Jain visited the injured Indians who were admitted at the Amiri Hospital.
“The conditions of all the injured Indians are stable and some of the injured have been discharged from hospital after first aid,” an embassy official told PTI.
A suicide bomber hit the mosque on Friday during noon prayers, killing 26 people and injuring 227 in an attack claimed by the Islamic State.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had condemned the “cowardly” attack in Kuwait, saying the progress of humanity lies in peace and brotherhood instead of hatred and mindless violence.
The embassy has advised the Indian community in Kuwait to take precautions for their safety and security in the country in the wake of the blast.
Over 8 lakh Indians live in Kuwait, forming the second biggest expatriate community after the Egyptians.
Majority of the Indians are employed in private sectors and are construction workers, technicians, engineers, doctors, chartered accountants and IT experts.
Meanwhile, state-run KUNA news agency on Sunday said that police has arrested the driver who transported the suicide bomber to the mosque where he blew himself up.
Authorities have also detained the owner of the house where the bomber was staying, it said, citing a statement from the Interior Ministry.
The arrest came a day after thousands of mourners, including women clad in black dress, attended the funeral of 18 out of 26 victims of the bombing.
The bodies of the remaining victims were flown to Iraq’s holy city of Najaf for burial.

Kuwait detains driver that took bomber to mosque
Illegal resident named Abdul-Rahman Sabah Aidan: Kuna
Kuwait has detained the driver of the vehicle that took a suicide bomber to a mosque where he detonated explosives, killing 27 people, state news agency Kuna said on Sunday.
The interior ministry said the driver of the Japanese-made car, who left the mosque immediately after Friday’s bombing, was an illegal resident named Abdul-Rahman Sabah Aidan, Kuna reported.
Daesh claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing against 2,000 worshippers praying at the Imam Al Sadeq mosque on Friday, one of three attacks on three continents that day apparently linked to Daesh.
The interior ministry, which had earlier reported the vehicle owner’s arrest, said Aidan, 26, was found hiding in one of the houses in the Al Riqqa residential area.
"Initial investigations showed that the owner of the house is a supporter of the deviant thinking," the ministry said, adding that the owner of the house is a Kuwaiti citizen.
Daesh named the bomber as Abu Suleiman Al Muwahed.
Kuwait says mosque suicide bomber was Saudi
DUBAI: A suicide bomber who carried out a deadly attack claimed by the Islamic State group on a Shiite mosque in Kuwait was a Saudi national, the interior ministry said Sunday.
In a statement carried by the official KUNA news agency, the ministry identified the attacker as Fahd Suleiman Abdulmohsen al-Qaba’a.
The ministry said that Qaba’a entered the country through Kuwait Airport at dawn on Friday, the same day of the bombing.
IS claimed the attack, which killed 26 and wounded 227 worshippers at the Al-Imam Al-Sadeq mosque in Kuwait City.
The ministry statement provided no further details about the bomber. Earlier on Sunday, the ministry said that security services arrested the driver of the car that transported the bomber to the site of the attack.
Authorities have also detained the owner of the house where the bomber was staying. He was described by the interior ministry as a Kuwaiti national who subscribes to "extremist and deviant ideology".
The driver, named as Abdulrahman Sabah Eidan Saud, was described as an "illegal resident" born in 1989.
Authorities on Saturday arrested the owner of the car, Jarrah Nimr Mejbil Ghazi, born in 1988, and also listed as a stateless person.
