Centre, Maharashtra govts want riots to earn votes: Raj Thackeray
Addressing his party workers in Thane, Thackeray said that BJP governments at the Centre and Maharashtra want to instigate people to win elections.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray on Monday attacked the Modi government while accusing it of polarising the country to earn votes.
Addressing his party workers in Thane, Thackeray said that BJP governments at the Centre and Maharashtra want to instigate people to win elections. He said the government was actually backing AIMIM leaders Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi to make inflammatory statements.
Govt backing Owaisi brothers
"They allow them (Owaisi brothers) to make inflammatory statements so that Hindus get annoyed and polarisation would help them win votes," Thackeray said in what is perhaps his first criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA government. "92 cases have been filed against me but none against the Owaisi brothers. Why?" he asked.
Govt wanted riots by dramatising Yakub’s hanging
Taking a dig at people who opposed the Supreme Court’s verdict of executing 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts convict Yakub Memon, the Maharashtra leader said people like Ram Jethmalani, Mahesh Bhatt and Salman Khan were sympathising with a man who was convicted of killing so many innocent people.
"The way our courts work is strange. For common public it is closed for summer vacation, Diwali and other festivals but for Yakub it opened at 3.00 am. Yakub’s execution was made a spectacle. The way government handled the whole issue, it seemed that they wanted riots to happen," Thackeray said.
Fadnavis a good man
Describing Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as a good man, Thackeray said both PM Modi and BJP president Amit Shah are not allowing him to work. "I was not expecting that this government will be exposed so soon," he said and added, "Rather than making good runs they are taking "chiki" singles."
Salman Khan is a man without brains: Raj Thackeray
Days after the execution of Mumbai blasts convict Yakub Memon, MNS Chief Raj Thackeray pulled up the issue again and condemned everyone who supported Yakub Memon, including actor Salman Khan.
Slamming Salman Khan for his tweets in support of Yakub Memon, Raj Thackeray said that the actor is a man without brains, according to media reports.
The MNS chief also said that the actor doesn’t read newspapers and is completely ignorant about the case. Thus, he went on tweeting in favour of Yakub.
When asked why did he visit Salman’s residence after the latter was found guilty in the hit-and-run case, the MNS chief stated that he did so as he has good relations with the actor’s father Salim Khan.
Following Supreme Court’s confirmation on Yakub’s death sentence, Salman had tweeted that Yakub Memon shouldn’t be hanged for the crimes that his brother Tiger Memon has committed.
Later, on facing a backlash on social media, Salman retracted his tweets.
Besides Salman Khan, Raj Thackeray slammed the BJP government also and accused them of conspiring a riot in India.
