Ex-lovers Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor open up about their relationship

What exactly is the current relation between ex-lovers Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor?

Deepika Padukone and Ranbir Kapoor’s equation has kept many a Bollywood-news consumer occupied for a long time now. Ever since news of the two actors dating each other broke, sometime in 2007, people have lapped up every bit of development on the same. Deepika and Ranbir appeared together on the silver screen in 2008, in Siddharth Anand’s Bachna Ae Haseeno.

The two then had their much-in-the-public-eye break-up. The Deepika Padukone-Ranbir Kapoor saga has seen several highs and lows, and is now at a midpoint of sorts. Deepika and Ranbir are now ’good friends’, they have a crackling on-screen chemistry, and are soon to be seen together in Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha.

As for their respective love-lives, Ranbir Kapoor is in a relationship with Katrina Kaif, while Deepika Padukone has found love in the arms of Ranveer Singh. However, Ranbir and Deepika, if the two are to be believed, still love each other. Not necessarily in the ’immature’, ’I lover her’ way, though.

In an interview to the Times of India, Deepika was asked if she still loved Ranbir. Her response was, "Of course I do. I don’t think that every feeling has to be broken down, as I don’t believe that emotions are unidimensional anyway. Feelings and emotions are very layered."

Deepika went on to say how she was ’extremely possessive’ about Ranbir, "He is someone I have always loved and someone I will always be extremely possessive about and very protective about. When I read about him, when I see his work - good, bad whatever it is - I have my own monologue that is going on in my head and which I do share with him."

She added, "Of course, we are individual people at the end of the day and will still do what we have to do, but we have that comfort with each other where we can say that to each other."

On his part, Ranbir said that he loved Deepika ’like family’, "Yes, of course. The amount of love I have for Deepika is like family. It’s very warm, it’s about care, about being proud of her. The facet of love, care and respect has changed, but changed for the better. It’s not your immature ’I love her’ kind of feeling. It’s mature and that’s come with age. Also, we have both positively moved on with our lives."

After their break-up, Ranbir and Deepika were first seen together on the silver screen in 2013, in the Ayan Mukerji-directed Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Now, the ex-lovers have teamed up for Imtiaz ALi’s Tamasha, which is scheduled for a November 27 release.
 
Ever since the trailer of Tamasha hit the web, people have been re-going gaga over the magic that Ranbir and Deepika together weave on the screen. Certain polls have also spoken of the Ranbir-Deepika pair alongside the Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol one, a comparison that has done wonders to the former.

Off screen too, the ex-lovers have been doing their best to wow their fans. In addition to regaling people at every promotional event or media interaction whatsoever, Ranbir and Deepika have gone the extra mile to speak about what one means to the other. Whether or not they are able to recreate the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani effect on the box office is something that we’ll know in just about a week.
