Tulu film chandi kori grosses Rs 1.68 crore in 50 days

MANGALURU: Tulu film `Chandi Kori’ has grossed a massive Rs 1.68 crore since its release. It has completed 50 days of successful run at the box office.The success at a rural cinema hall in Sullia has surprised Bolli Movies’ team members. The film was a big hit in Belthangady and Moodbidri, but collections plunged after communal trouble erupted last week. Film producer Sharmila Kapikad told TOI: "The team was overwhelmed by the support for the movie in rural centres with Karkala, Belthangady and Sullia bringing in more-than-expected returns."
"If not for the trouble that broke out in Moodbidri, the film would have done well in the region. Despite the clashes, Moodbidri cinema halls have reserved one slot for the film, and Sullia has regular screening of the mo vie," she added.
Happy with the box-office col ections, the banner announced its next project `Barsa’ with Sharmila’s son Arjun Kapikad in the ead. Arjun, who has bagged a ead role in Tamil film `Anjil’, is waiting for his first Kannada film Madhura Swapna’ to hit the screens. "The overwhelming love of Tulu fans has prompted the team to announce `Barsa’," Arjun told TOI.
The Tulu movie got good response overseas too. It was screened at the City Centre in Bahrain recently.
"Five shows organized in Kuwait were houseful," Sharmila said, adding the film was also screened at Muscat, Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. "In January , we plan to screen it in Australia, Singapore and Qatar."
