Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt, who will ascend ‘Sarvajna Peetha’ for the fifth time during this paryaya, will be accorded with a civic reception at the town hall here today January 3, according to S. Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, general secretary, Udupi Paryaya Samiti.
Addressing the media here on Friday, he said that Mayor Jacintha Vijaya Alfred would preside over the function. Vishwa Prasanna Tirtha, the junior seer of the mutt, would be present.
The two seers would be brought to the town hall from Sharavu Mahaganapathi temple at 4 p.m. Cultural programmes would begin at the Town Hall from 3.30 p.m. There would be a music programme and a dance performance too.
Minister in-charge of Dakshina Kannada B. Ramanath Rai, Minister in-charge of Udupi, Vinay Kumar Sorake, Minister for Health and Family Welfare U.T. Khader, Minister of State for Youth Empowerment, Sports and Fisheries K. Abhayachandra Jain, Oscar Fernandes, MP, J.R. Lobo, B.A. Mohiuddin Bava, MLAs, and Ganesh Karnik and Ivan D’Souza, MLCs, would be present.
A local reception committee has been formed which included N Vinay Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte University.

District In-charge Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said various departments of the government should work collectively to ensure smooth conduct of the fifth Paryaya of Pejawar mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami.
Speaking at a preparatory meeting for the Paryaya festival at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Friday, he said the district had conducted the Mahamasthakabhisheka and Atthur Church festival smoothly. The Pura Pravesha (entry into the city) of the seer would be held on January 4 and the elaborate security arrangements would be made for the purpose, he added.
Deputy Commissioner Dr R Vishal directed police officials to provide tight security for the ‘Hore Kanike’ procession as the traffic might pose a problem. The police officials said that plans for security have been chalked out and sufficient number of personnel have been deployed for the purpose. Women police, home guards would also be deployed.
CCTV cameras have been put up at strategic points. The police personnel would also be called from other districts to curtail the number of crimes during the Paryaya celebrations.
The crime branch personnel will be on constant vigil. As many as 24 junctions have been identified to set up police control rooms and also CCTV camera control rooms, he added.
Dr Vishal said the police can contact the RTO for additional vehicles to aid hassle-free transport. He instructed the CMC Commissioner to set up temporary toilets and also make sufficient drinking water arrangements, besides maintaining hygienic conditions in the area. The Car Street area and nearby should be cleaned. The Fire and Emergency Services Department personnel and Health Department officials to be equipped to with measures handle the emergencies, said the official.
The DC also directed the KSRTC to deploy additional buses for easy transport and also instructed the Mescom to provide uninterrupted power supply during the Paryaya festival. He also said a helipad should be built and arrangements should be made for the accommodation of the dignitaries, he added.
The mutt’s Diwan said a bike rally with 400 motorbikes and performance by 55 folk art teams would mark the seer’s Pura Pravesha ceremony. About 3,000 people are expected to take part in the function. The civic felicitation ceremony is held on the occasion. The ‘Hore Kanike’ procession would be held every day in the evening from January 5. The Mulsim community people would organise a blood donation camp to mark the celebrations on January 17, he added.
