I condemn communalism like anything, asserts CM Siddaramaiah

KOILA (Puttur taluk, DK district): The government has reached out to people in Karnataka on the strength of programmes announced in the party’s manifesto and not by communal propaganda, noted CM Siddaramaiah. Asserting that he condemns communalism like anything, irrespective of who is indulging in it, the CM said he and the government stand by the secular tenets enshrined in India’s constitution and believe in reaching out to last man standing in the state.

Laying the foundation stone for the new veterinary college of Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University on Sunday, Siddaramaiah said performance of his government can be gauged from the fact that more than 125 out of 165 poll promises have been met in little over three years that his government has been in power. "We have directly or otherwise touched 75% of state’s 6.5 crore population through the various government schemes," he said.

The Krishi Bhagya, Anna Bhagya, Vidya Siri, Ksheera Bhagya has revolutionized the way poor and marginalized farmers and a whole lot of beneficiaries approach their daily lives, he said adding all this has been conceptualized and implemented to ensure that no one goes to bed on a hungry stomach, discontinues education for want of hostel accommodation or is forced to end their lives due to non-remunerative agricultural returns or inability to handle excess milk production.

Assuring he will examine a proposal to set up an Arecanut Board mooted to ameliorate condition of areca nut growers after going through its pros and cons based on recommendation made by an expert committee set up the government, Siddaramaiah assured that the government will start a first grade college at Koila from the academic year 2017-18. The government will also favourably consider giving Kadaba taluk status as recommended by various committees, he said.

Earlier, A Manju, minister for animal husbandry and sericulture, who felicitated CM for granting the college and releasing funds for the college said steps have been taken to appoint 650 veterinary doctors across Karnataka. The new veterinary college will augment academic intake for the BVSc course in the state from present 290 seats to 350, he said adding when the colleges at Gadag and Athani start functioning, this intake will go up by around 120 seats more.
