Superfast Hoysala cars cut police response time

Reach scenes of crime in just 12-15 minutes

With the addition of 51 Pink Hoysala cars to the fleet of patrol vehicles in Bengaluru, the average response time taken by police to reach a crime spot has decreased drastically. Police personnel now reach a crime spot in just 12-15 minutes, down from 22-25 minutes earlier. 

“The response time varies slightly both ways, depending on traffic during peak and non-peak hours during daytime. Night patrol vehicles reach the crime spot almost immediately,” M G Nagendra Kumar, DCP, Command Centre, told DH. 

The key to the quick response is the stationing of Hoysala vehicles at strategic locations in beat patrolling areas. This helps police to reach a crime spot in any part of the city in the quickest possible time, Kumar added. 

Police have marked beat patrolling zones in proportion to the number of crimes reported from specific areas. Zones that report a large number of crimes are marked red (sensitive) while zones with lower crime rates are assigned other colours (less sensitive). More patrol vehicles are stationed in and around sensitive zones so as to reduce the response time. The Hoysala command centre in the police commissioner’s office tracks each of these 272 Hoysala vehicles in real time. 

The command centre receives around 2,000 calls every day; around 500 calls require despatch of patrol vehicles. Calls to the control room range from road accidents, domestic violence and street fights to crimes against women, murders, robberies, chain-snatchings and house-breaks.
