Print The Miracle of Yesterday’s Mumbai Rain....... by Rolvin D’Mello
While the city of Mumbai was completely flooded and paralyzed, millions stranded on streets – completely drenched in rain, hungry & tired, many of them struggling to make their way back home. There was a MIRACLE that happened simultaneously in the hearts of hundreds of Mumbaikars.
I was out in the evening first to survey the disastrous situation in Matunga-Dadar-Wadala area and later to help & guide stranded people to safe places, to direct people going home on which roads they can use to reach home and to be of assistance to those who needed – only to realize that I was not alone, there were number of Good Samaritans doing this work!
As the dark of the night fell, I realized that for most people there was no way out! There were thousands on the street who would be stranded for the whole night – many patients and long distance travellers totally helpless. The management of DON BOSCO opened up the School (Matunga) and offered shelter, free food and water. We got busy late into the night with this mission (taking care of more than 250 people) – only to realize that we were not alone, there were many other Good Samaritans doing this work.
Yesterday there was no Christian, no Hindu, and no Muslim. There were no Maharashtrians, no South or North Indian. There were no political parties, no religious mandals and no CSR banners - no hidden agenda and no publicity. THERE WERE only human beings, reaching out to help other human beings in need – helping & guiding, distributing free food, water, etc.
We definitely don’t need the floods once again in our city but we want this MIRACLE that happened yesterday to happen daily. We want the warmth in our hearts that was generated due to the heavy rains to remain forever in-order to keep alive the true spirit of MUMBAI.
