Bengaluru… January 5, 2019…Pinkathon Training Girls led by Pinkathon Ambassador Bhumika Patel organised the first-of-its-kind Shero 10 K Powered By Apollo Hospitals 200 plus cancer victors along with their caregivers participated in this run which was supported by the 7th edition of Bajaj Electricals Bangalore Pinkathon 2019 presented by COLORS at Bal Bhavan-Cubbon park today. Pinkathon Forever Training come up with this unique idea of rehabilitation of the cancer victors as well as their care givers.
Pinkathon Training promotes the message of health and fitness for all women. The training group has changed the convalescing life of cancer survivors and made them victors in true sense. With every weekend of yoga therapy, pep talks with oncologists, orthopaedic doctors and physiotherapy sessions, some of the trainees like Geetha Sekhar and Ravi have completed their maiden half marathons and cancer survivors like Seema have become strong and fit enough to do their maiden 5k runs.
At the flag-off, Pinkathon Mentor Milind Soman said, “As a precursor to the main day event, United Sisters Foundation usually organises an unique event such as the Cancer Shero Trek or walk for the cancer survivors. This event is dedicated towards felicitating these inspiring people who have fought and overcome the deadly disease and honouring them with an “I Inspire” medal for the true spirit and strength of womanhood. Smita Amdekar, our 21 kms mascot for Bangalore Pinkathon is also a Cancer Shero. This idea of a standalone Shero 10 K struck us after watching our cancer victors scaling more and more distances strongly and easily after undergoing training at our various Pinkathon Forever training groups at Bannerghatta, Jayanagar and Cubbon in the recent past with support from Apollo Hospitals and other well-known Institutions. As part of various on ground activities to build the momentum for the main day run, the Shero 10 K is another unique initiative from Pinkathon Training Girls. This run was designed especially for cancer victors who have undergone training and are willing to test their fitness and endurance levels. With the triumph of shero training groups on one hand, we successfully organised the first novel Shero 10K Powered byApollo Hospitals. We plan to organise similar such runs in other cities too.”
Milind Soman further added that, “This will encourage cancer survivors which include women across all age groups, who have battled cancer in some form and stage, friends, supporters and care givers to participate and help spread awareness that the deadly disease can be fought, overcome and the victors can lead a healthy & normal life. They don’t need sympathy but acceptance and empathy will work wonders for them. Its exemplary that these women have challenged their physical abilities. While many women have an excuse to not do anything for their health & fitness, cancer victors participated whole heartedly in the Shero 10 K Powered by Apollo Hospitals, in order to lead by example & educate people about the need for fitness to either avoid or deal with the dreaded disease. This event will hopefully foster a greater understanding and inculcate empathy between two worlds and perhaps give hope and positivity to everyone.”
The concept is to provide a community activity where a person who has withstood the physical and emotional ravages of the disease, has a chance to test themselves in a safe environment surrounded by friends and caregivers. The main focus of this event is to salute the strength of the women who have braved through cancer and are setting an example in fitness. The biggest takeaway from this program was excellent health, a major amount of self-confidence lost during the ailment, friends for a lifetime and loads of good memories.
