This time too, Woman Friendly pink polling booths!

Polling: District SVEEP committee’s action

Mangaluru: The district SVEEP committee has organised various programmes to motivate the people to vote for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and like the last time, this time too woman friendly pink pooling booths will be seen.

During the last Assembly elections, the election commission had advised to set woman friendly polling booths at select polling stations of the 224 constituencies in the state. Accordingly, last time the DK district administration set up the women friendly polling booths at three polling booths in Mangaluru South Legislative Assembly constituency at the Government Higher Primary School at Kapikad in Bejai, St. Aloysius Hr. Pr. School in Urwa and at Government Women’s First Degree Colleges at Balmatta. The polling booths at these locations were converted into women friendly polling booths by decorating them in pink colour and balloons. Hence, the district administration has made preparations to have pink polling booths during this election too. He decision on which polling booth may be differentiated as the pink polling booth and special polling booth will be taken under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner, CEO and other officials. This time, there is possibility that more than three polling booths may be decorated as pink polling booths.

Pink colour decoration

Last time, in order to welcome the voters coming to cast their votes at the pink polling booths, the entry door had been decorated in pink colour. The interiors of the polling booths were decorated with pink coloured ribbons and pink coloured balloons. Even the table on which the EVM was placed and the tables and chairs were sat the officials was also decorated in pink colour. This time, the decoration will be different, inform the officials.

Women staff at the polling booth

The polling booths are being decorated in the colour pink because the colour signifies femininity. Hence, even the security staff and police personnel stationed here will be women. On the day of voting, they will be wearing pink dress and reporting for duty.

Besides, a separate game room will be provided for the children accompanying their mothers who have come to cast their votes. There will be a separate polling booth for the disabled. The SVEEP committee has made preparations to organize several new programmes to inspire the people to cast their votes.

Discussion regarding the selection of the polling booths

“Every single citizen of the country must cast their votes. New programmes are being organised to attract the youth towards voting. Hence, pink polling booths are being created with the aim to attract women voters to cast their votes. Discussion are being conducted regarding the selection of the polling booths,” informed Dr R Selvamani, President, District SVEEP committee
