Mumbai police in Kerala to arrest CPI-M leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy

Thiruvananthapuram: A police team from Mumbai reached Kerala on Sunday to arrest Kerala CPI-M leader Kodiyeri Balakrishnan’s son Binoy Kodiyeri, who has been absconding for the past five days after rape case filed against him in Mumbai last week. The police team put up notices at several places asking Binoy to appear before it.

In the FIR filed at the Oshiwara police station in Mumbai’s Andheri area, the 33-year-old city-based woman, who hails from Bihar, alleged that Binoy sexually exploited her for several years on the promise of marriage and they also have a child.

According to her complaint, she entered into a relationship with him while working at a dance bar in Dubai in 2008 and now has an eight-year-old child with him.

While the woman has agreed to undergo tests needed to prove her charges and also establish her child’s paternity, Binoy is unwilling.

Binoy’s father Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, who is CPI-M’s Kerala Secretary, on Saturday broke his silence on the case insisting that neither he nor his party would try and defend his son.

A Mumbai court will decide on Binoy’s anticipatory bail plea on Monday. But a day before that more documents, including pictures, surfaced establishing the claims of the victim.

Police accessed the woman’s passport and a bank passbook in which Binoy Vinodhini Balakrishnan has been named as her husband.

While the passport was last renewed in 2014, the passbook of a new generation bank in Mumbai shows that Binoy transferred money ranging from Rs 50,000 and upwards on several occasions between 2010 and 2015.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Maharashtra Police has asked Binoy Kodiyeri, son of Kerala CPI-M Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, to appear before it in three days, after a rape case was filed against him last week.

In her FIR, a 33-year-old Mumbai-based woman who hails from Bihar, has alleged that Kodiyeri sexually exploited her for several years on the promise of marriage and they have an eight year old child together. She registered a complaint at Andheri’s Oshiwara police station on June 13, after she found out that he was already married.

According to her complaint, she entered into a relationship with Kodiyeri while working in Dubai in 2008. She alleged that until 2015, Kodiyeri used to send her money every month.

The victim has handed over some crucial documents, including pictures, to the police.

According to the victim, she filed the FIR two months after she wrote about the matter to the CPI-M national leadership but failed to get a response from them.

The CPI-M leaders now maintain that the case has nothing to do with the party.

“A case against an individual needs to be defended by him,” party’s Politbureau member Brinda Karat said in New Delhi. State Fisheries Minister J. Mercykutty repeated the statement on Wednesday.

State BJP spokesperson B. Gopalakrishnan questioned the silence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and veteran legislator V.S. Achuthanandan on the case.

“Binoy should present himself for a DNA test and the CPI-M state secretary Balakrishnan should step down in the wake of this serious charge against his son,” said Gopalakrishnan.

Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly Ramesh Chennithala wasn’t as scathing.“Let the police probe the case but something is happening in the CPI-M, which does not augur well for them,” said Chennithala.
