They will have to provide infrastructure and take care of the shelters
Kota Srinivas Poojary, Minister for Ports and Fisheries, and Muzrai, said on Friday that the government intends to start cow protection centres (go samrakshana kendras) in Grade A temples coming under the Muzrai Department in the State. He was chairing a review meeting of the Muzrai Department at the District Offices Complex here.
Mr. Poojary said that a cow protection centre each would be started at the Sri Durgaparmeshwari Temple at Mandarti and Sri Mookambika Temple at Kollur in Udupi district on an experimental basis.
The temples will have to provide basic infrastructure for these centres and provide finance for their maintenance. He directed the officers of the Revenue Department to identify lands for setting up the cow protection centres at both these places.
The Muzrai Department had decided to implement an ‘e-hundi system’ to count the amount of money received in hundis of the temples in the State through the e-governance department.
Under the system, it will also be possible to check the weight of gold and silver ornaments donated in the hundi. The money collected will be deposited in the accounts of the temples. This system will be transparent and money donated by the devotees will be used for the development of temples, he said.
The Muzrai Department was considering giving the power of approval for construction works, up to ₹2 crore, and for other works, up to ₹1 crore, to Deputy Commissioners.
Temples with revenue of over ₹25 lakh under Grade B will be immediately included under Grade A, he said.
Steps had been taken to open a separate engineering division for giving technical sanction to various works of the temples.
