Do not play communal politics during lockdown: Congress MLA slams Karnataka govt for reopening only temples
Congress MLA NA Haris asked the state government to either open all religious places, including mosques or churches, together or none.
Karnataka government’s decision to reopen temples from June 1 has come under attack from Congress. Congress MLA NA Haris asked the state government to either open all religious places, including mosques or churches, together or none.
"The government must announce reopening of mosques and churches as well. They were closed together and they have to reopen together. Can’t just open temples and not mosques," NA Haris said.
The Congress MLA from Bengaluru’s Shanthinagar, NA Harris accused the BS Yediyurappa government of playing communal politics.
"They can’t do politics in name of religion now. If this is the attitude of the government, then the people will teach them the lesson," he said.
Karnataka on Tuesday became the first state to announce the reopening of temples. The state government’s order will be applicable from June 1.
The decision was announced on Tuesday after Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa held a meeting with his minister for religious and charitable trusts - popularly known as Muzrai minister Kota Srinivas Poojary.
As per the state government’s announcement, a standard operating protocol will have to be by the temple administration after reopening. The SOP will be released soon.
Sources in the Karanataka government said that decision was taken keeping in mind that there was a huge demand for temple opening by both priests and devotees.
There are around 34,500 temples under the Muzrai ministry in Karnataka and all will reopen from June 1.
