ಕಮ್ಯುನಿಟಿ ಹೆಲ್ತ್ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವಿಭಾಗದ ಫಾದರ್ ಮುಲ್ಲರ್ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಆಫ್ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್‌ನ ಸಹಾಯಕ ಪ್ರಾಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾದ ಶೈಸಿಲ್ ಮ್ಯಾಥ್ಯೂ ಇವರು "ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳು, ಹದಿಹರೆಯದವರ ಬಾಡಿ ಮಾಸ್ ಇಂಡೆಕ್ಸ್ನಿಂದ ಅಧಿಕ ತೂಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥೂಲಕಾಯದ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಪೋಷಕರನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿರುವ ಬಹು-ಘಟಕ ಮಧ್ಯಸ್ಥಿಕೆ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮ" ಎಂಬುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಮ್ಮ ತನ್ನ ಪಿಎಚ್‌ಡಿ ಪ್ರಬಂಧವನ್ನು ಮಂಗಳವಾರ, ಸೆಪ್ಟೆಂಬರ್ 12, 2023 ರಂದು ಮಂಡಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇದು ಜೀವನಶೈಲಿಯ ಅಭ್ಯಾಸಗಳ ಸುಧಾರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಯುವಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಅಧಿಕ ತೂಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥೂಲಕಾಯತೆಯ ಕಡಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದೆ. ಹರೆಯದ ಸ್ಥೂಲಕಾಯತೆಯನ್ನು ಪೋಷಕರ ಸಹಾಯವಿಲ್ಲದೆ ತಡೆಯಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ತಮ್ಮ ಅಧ್ಯಯನದಲ್ಲಿ, ಪೋಷಕರು, ಶಾಲೆಯ ದೈಹಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಕರು ಮತ್ತು ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ವೃತ್ತಿಪರರನ್ನೂ ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಸಾಂಕ್ರಾಮಿಕವಲ್ಲದ ರೋಗಗಳಿಂದ ಆರೋಗ್ಯದ ಹೊರೆಯನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಅವರ ಧ್ಯೇಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ನಿರಂತರ ತರಬೇತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಉತ್ತಮ ಫಲಿತಾಂಶಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಪೋಷಕರು ಮತ್ತು ದೈಹಿಕ ಶಿಕ್ಷಣತಜ್ಞರನ್ನು ಒಳಗೂಡಿಸುವುದು, ತೂಕ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ಥೂಲಕಾಯವನ್ನು ತಡೆಯಲು ಒಂದು ಮಾರ್ಗವಾಗಿದೆ. ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ವರ್ತನೆಯಲ್ಲಿನ ಬದಲಾವಣೆಗಳು ಕೇವಲ ಪ್ರೇರಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಮೇಲ್ವಿಚಾರಣೆಯ ಮೂಲಕ ಮಾತ್ರ ಸಾಧಿಸಬಹುದು, ಪರೋಕ್ಷವಾಗಿ ವಯಸ್ಕ-ಅಂತರದ ರೋಗವನ್ನು ತಡೆಗಟ್ಟಬಹುದು. ಡಾ. ಪ್ರಕಾಶ್ ಆರ್. ಎಂ. ಸಲ್ಡಾನ್ಹಾ, ಉಪ ಪ್ರಾಂಶುಪಾಲರು/ಪ್ರೊಫೆಸರ್, ಪೀಡಿಯಾಟ್ರಿಕ್ಸ್ ವಿಭಾಗ, ಯೆನೆಪೋಯ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು, ಮತ್ತು ಡಾ. ಜೆನಿಫರ್ ಡಿಸೋಜಾ, ಪ್ರೊಫೆಸರ್/ಎಚ್‌ಒಡಿ, ಸಮುದಾಯ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ವಿಭಾಗ, ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿ ಮೆಮೋರಿಯಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಆಫ್ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್, ಎಜೆ ವೈದ್ಯಕೀಯ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಇವರ ಮೇಲ್ವಿಚಾರಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ ಮ್ಯಾಥ್ಯೂ ಅವರು ಈ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆಯನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿದರು. ಅವರು ಸಿಟಿ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಆಫ್ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ಮತ್ತು ಯೆನೆಪೋಯ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್ ಕಾಲೇಜಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತಲಾ ಐದು ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಗೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಾಲ ಅಧ್ಯಾಪಕರಾಗಿ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಅವರು ಆರ್‌ಜಿಯುಹೆಚ್‌ಎಸ್ ಅಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸಿಟಿ ಕಾಲೇಜ್ ಆಫ್ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್‌ನಿಂದ ಸಮುದಾಯ ಆರೋಗ್ಯ ನರ್ಸಿಂಗ್‌ನಲ್ಲಿ ಪದವಿ ಮತ್ತು ಸ್ನಾತಕೋತ್ತರ ಪದವಿಯನ್ನು ಪಡೆದಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ಇವರು ಶ್ರೀ ಮ್ಯಾಥ್ಯೂ ಸುಬಿನ್ ಅವರ ಪತ್ನಿ ಮತ್ತು ಈ ದಂಪತಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಡೇವಿಡ್ ಮಥಾಯ್ ಸುಬಿನ್ ಎಂಬ ಪುತ್ರನಿದ್ದಾನೆ.

Mrs. MATHEW defends her PhD thesis on Tuesday, September 12th, 2023.Mrs. Shycil Matthew, Associate Professor, Father Muller College of Nursing, Dept. of Community Health Nursing, defends her PhD thesis on “Parent-Involved Multi-Component Intervention Programme on Lifestyle Practices and Body Mass Index of Overweight and Obese Adolescents." The thesis is related to the improvement of lifestyle practices and the reduction of overweight and obesity among growing youth.

Adolescent obesity cannot be prevented without parental help. In her study, she included parents, physical educators of the school, and health professionals to see the impact. Her motto is to reduce the health burden due to NCDs (Non-Communicable Diseases). Her research depicts that involving parents and physical educators for a better outcome with continuous reinforcement is a way to prevent overweight and obesity because behavioural changes can only be achieved through intermittent motivation and supervision, indirectly preventing adult-onset chronic illness.

Mrs. Mathew was supervised by Dr. Prakash R. M. Saldanha, Vice Principal/Professor, Department of Paediatrics, Yenepoya Medical College, YU, and Dr. Jenifer D’Souza, Professor/HOD of the Department of Community Health Nursing, Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing. AJ Medical College. She served as a faculty member at the City College of Nursing and Yenepoya Nursing College for more than five years each. She completed her graduation and post-graduation in community health nursing from the City College of Nursing, Mangalore, under RGUHS. She is the wife of Mr. Mathew Subin and the mother of David Mathai Subin.
