Tanvir Ahmed refuelled twice at a bunk on Old Madras Road and paid by cheques that were rejected by bank

Common motorists have no choice but to pay either by cash or card once they refuel at petrol bunks, but this neta not only paid by cheque, but he has also managed to palm off dud cheques. Petrol bunk owners are now chasing Tanvir Ahmed, a Shivajinagar-based politician for their dues.

A case of cheating has been registered with the Ulsoor police against Ahmed. The cops say Ahmed has played the same game at several petrol bunks across the city.
Ahmed’s modus operandi first came to light on October 16 last year when he filled 36 litres of petrol (worth Rs 2,700) from a bunk on Old Madras Road. Ahmed then allegedly told staff at the bunk that he had forgotten his wallet.
“He told staff that he had left the money in his house and would get it,” the owner of the bunk said. “He flashed his visiting card (which had the symbol of the Congress party and a picture of Sonia Gandhi on it) and since he assured us that he would return the next day and pay up, we let him off on humanitarian grounds. But he did not return. However, he came to the bunk on the afternoon on October 30 and produced a cheque for Rs 2,700.

When we presented the cheque for payment, the bank rejected it on grounds that the amount had been struck off and rewritten. We informed him about it on the phone and he promised to come and pay us later.”
But Ahmed did not return to make payment. A month later, he again visited the bunk, filled petrol worth Rs 4,000 and handed over two cheques to the owner.
“We allowed him to fill petrol for the second time as he spoke very politely and was very humble,” the owner said. “But the bank rejected both the cheques the next day and we realised that we had been taken for a ride again. I was under the impression that since he is a member of the Congress party he would behave responsibly, but I was proved wrong.”
The bunk owner has now filed a complaint with the Ulsoor police. The police claim that there have similar instances reported at petrol bunks in Kalkere and Ramamurthynagar areas.
When contacted, Ahmed admitted, “It is true that I have refilled fuel in the car and not paid the amount. I will make the payment.”
