Journalist attacked by a gang of 40

Vittal: V.T. Prasad, Karavali Ale reporter, Vittal, was attacked by a team consisting of over 40 members. The incident took place on Wednesday, November 27, morning.

The miscreants not only beat him brutally but they also stamped him and danced on his body.

Details: Prasad had attended a general meet in the school located near his house in the morning. Around 11.45am, a gang (all members allegedly belong to the same community), called him out of the meet. They then allegedly took him to a house belonging to Aleema, beat him with wooden planks and stamped him with shoes. Prasad who was then found in an unconscious state was rushed to a private hospital in Vittal by Vittal friends and local police.
It is said that Prasad is responding to the treatment.
Two arrested:
Vittal police have arrested two namely Barebettu Siddique and Barik Kudthamugeru who allegedly belong to the gang.

Prasad’s statement:
Prasad, who was able to talk to reporters in the evening, said, “As, nobody sponsored funds to my neighbor Aleema, an underprivileged, I contacted a few people and helped Aleema build a house. This must have disturbed a few belonging to Aleema’s caste. Before attacking me, they questioned me as to why I wanted to get involved in unrelated work. I’ve identified a few namely Barebettu Siddique, Barik Kudthamugeru, Madaka Sharif, Jabbara and Abdul Lathif.”
Ambulance stopped:
It is learnt that an individual stopped the ambulance while carrying Prasad to the hospital. He then questioned the people in the ambulance as to why he was being taken to the hospital and that he must die. A case has been registered against him.

Chit fund firm in Sullia dupes investors of Rs. 90 lacs


Sullia : Hundreds of investors were duped of Rs. 90 lacs by Guthigaru based chit fund firm.  Chida alias Chiti Chida who owned a shoe shop previously had also started chit fund business and an office was set up in a commercial building. He allegedly lured the residents promising them to double the money through chit fund scheme. However the people were shocked to find out that Chida had shut his shop and disappeared.

The duped investors who thronged his office found out that he had already emptied all furniture in his office and escaped. Victims have now orally complained to the Police.

Padil-Bajal under-bridge issue: Horata Samiti seeks explanation from railway dept

Mangalore: The statement issued by the railway authorities negating the possibility of an under-bridge from Padil to Bajal has angered the locals.

Responding to the statement by the department, B.M. Madhav, president of Horata Samiti said, Meets in relation to the construction of an under-bridge here, have been taking place since 2007. The railway department has reserved Rs 4.97cr for the same. The state government has already sanctioned half the amount. The railway department cannot escape from its responsibilities. This is ridiculous.”

“The officials must give an explanation about this in the meet scheduled on November 29 in Chennai,” he added.

BJP to convene protest against farmer suicide


Udupi : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will stage a protest on November 28 at Udupi Service Bus Stand condemning Karnataka State Government’s inaction after a farmer committed suicide outside Suvarna Soudha on Wednesday, November 27, stated Kuthyar Naveen Shetty, general secretary, BJP, Udupi in a press release.

“The response of the State Government has been callous.”he added. 

Young woman killed by jilted lover

Udupi: In a shocking incident a young woman was stabbed to death by a jilted lover in Malpe on Wednesday, November 27.
The deceased is identified as Ranjitha (20) of Patelthota in Kadekar. The accused Yogish (25) was her neighbor and was after Ranjitha from past one year.
But Ranjitha did not had any feelings towards him.
Yogish confronted Ranjitha on Wednesday and stabbed her before in a fit of anger. Yogesh escaped from the spot of the crime.
Ranjitha was immediately rushed to Ajjarkad Government Hospital and doctors declared her brought dead.
As per the sources Ranjitha’s family had once earlier complained to the police against Yogish for stalking her. The police had then summoned Yogish to the station and let him after warning him. Malpe police are investigating the case.
The distressed family members of Ranjitha, have demanded the arrest of the youth’s entire family until he was arrested. The youth’s uncle Rajkumar was taken into custody later in the day.
