Udupi : One of the great sport event in Udupi district in National level concluded with grand success. The Badminton Association of India has promised to sanctions junior badminton academy for Udupi and it will help in providing better facilities for budding badminton players in Udupi, said K. Raghupathy Bhat President of the Organizing Committee of the 41^st National Junior Badminton Tournament at Udupi.

He was speaking during the valedictory function held at Udupi on Saturday, 17^th December, 2016, said that Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta President of Badminton Association of India (BAI) granted Rs. 25 lakhs for the Udupi District Badminton Association and Rs 5 lakh set aside as token advance for the academy. Oscar Fernandes Member of Rajya Sabha and Pramod Madhwaraj Sports Minister of Karnataka State also provided us fund. Manipal University provided on the occasion of tournament accommodation and transport. Four synthetic badminton courts were used during the tournament which provided by the Manipal university.

K. Raghupathy Bhat said that still lot of work needs to be done to get the academy to Udupi. Prior to the keynote address, he remembered the role of late Prakash Kodavoor for his development of Udupi District Badminton Academy and his soul may be present on the occasion.

He said there were four synthetic badminton courts at District Indoor Stadium in Ajjarkad and five synthetic courts in Marina Indoor Stadium at Manipal. It would helped to conduct the grand event and the availability of these facilities will help in organizing more such events in future also. Efforts were on to organize a badminton exhibition matches by Saina Nehwal, Prakash Padukone and others shortly.

Vimal Kumar International badminton player and Coach of Saina Nehwal was the chief guest of the valedictory occasion. Vimal Kumar gave credit and gratitude to the Udupi District Badminton Association for organizing the National level junior Badminton tournament in accordingly with great success with all the facilities available to the players. Badminton players should work hard and be active in the game. Presently badminton players are getting better facilities available which take advantage to develop their game.

We have good players and to need good support to improve their game and it will helps to play in national as well as international level.

There were 600 players participated from except Nagaland all the states of the country. There were 32 judges which V. Deshwandikar was the chief referee.

The achievers were felicitated during the occasion. Kishan hedge, Dinakar Babu President of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Shashidher Baliga, G. Sridhar of State Bank, K. N. Jaiswal, Arun Kerker and Umer Rashid of Badminton Association of India, C. A. Shetty, raginder Sharma, S. C. Sudheer of BAI, Kishan Hegde Kolkebail and other among were present.

Jaiswal Secretary of BAI, Dinakar Babu were spoke during the occasion. The winners as well as runners up were honoured with beautiful trophies, certificate, garland and cash prize.
