Manipal : Free program will be held to train police, firemen, ambulance drivers, volunteer groups, home guards, auto rickshaw and taxi drivers on Sunday, 8th January 2017 from 8am to 6pm.
Accident victims to benefit from better onsite attention, quick rescue and prompt medical care.
Program to be conducted at regular intervals throughout the year for the benefit of the society
Trauma is a major killer across the world and most victims are in the productive age group, causing devastating damage to them and their families. A road accident occurs every four minutes in India. Trauma related deaths exceeded 50,000 in the year 2015 and care at site is dismal in India. Further wrong rescue measures on site of the accident can lead to medical complications for the victim.
“Prehospital Trauma Care Workshop” is a social initiative of Manipal University, Kasturba Medical College and Kasturba Hospital, Manipal along with local sponsors. This unique program,a first of its kind in the state will be on Sunday, 8th January 2017 from 8 AM to 6 PM at the Interact Lecture Hall, Ground floor, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital Campus, Manipal. The program is co-ordinated under the guidance of Dr.Anita Shenoy, Head of the Dept. of Anaesthesiology, Dr.Amrut K.Rao and Dr. Ashwin Udupa, Assistant Professors from Department of Anaesthesiology, KMC, Manipal. The Program was conceived under the guidance of Dr Poornima Baliga.B, Dean KMC Manipal and is jointly organised by Departments of Anesthesiology, Orthopaedics and General Surgery.
Prehospital Trauma Care Workshop’ is a unique opportunity for training first responders such as ambulance drivers, police, firemen, auto rickshaw and taxi drivers, home guards and local volunteer groups with essential skills to provide primary trauma care in the case of a roadside accident. This will be, first ever workshop of its kind in Karnataka with mostly ‘hands-on’ practical sessions after which the trainees should feel confident of handling these situations. Dr Dinesh Vyas, a well-known trauma surgeon, from the USA along with local instructors from the departments of Anaesthesiology, Orthopaedics and General Surgery, Kasturba Medical College, Manipal will be conducting this focused training program.
This will be an ongoing program and a hundred delegates will be trained in this first session. The course being planned once in every two months will be conducted free of cost. This would be a certification Program and certificates given to participants on completion of the course.
