Kuwait: Pioneer of quality entertainment & producer of regular hit shows from 11 years, Indian Cultural Society proudly present “Mega Theatrical Bonanza” on Friday 27th January & 3rd February with top most actors from film industry, theater & television.
First satirical & wholesome entertainers play “KASHMAKASH” from IPTA group with legendry actors Aanjjan Srivastav, Sulbha Arya and Avtar Gill. Kashmakash is translated from original Bengali Play by Debasis Majumdar. This is about exploitation of the needy classes by people in power. Unable to cope with the penury of his existence, the protagonist is forced by local politicians to transform himself into a freedom fighter. Two hours nonstop play is having full of humor and entertainment. KASHMAKASH act on Friday 27th January at Indian Embassy Auditorium at sharp 6pm.
Aanjjan Srivastav:
He is an Indian film, television and stage actor, associated with Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) in Mumbai.
His cultural nourishment came mainly from his mother’s family. They too came from U.P., but had settled long back in Bengal. His mother was into Rabindra Sangeet and his maternal uncle’s place was always crowded with local writers and artistes.
Aanjjan would sneak out of home to be able to work in Theatre productions in Calcutta. His determination led him to travel to Bombay with little, almost negligible money, and against his father’s wishes.
Aanjjan while being a banker simultaneously began his career with Theatre back in 1967 has kept it as an upmost priority till now. Long before Aanjjan became a household name as "MR. WAGLE", thanks to R.K. Laxman’s creation-Wagle ki Duniya, he had left his mark in iconic creations- Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Nukkad, Shyam Benegal’s Discovery of India, and Bhanwar.
The Beginning was well with Bengali plays like ’Neel Darpan’, ’Kayakalp’, ’Anwar’, "All my Sons" (based on Arthur Miller’s play) around the year 1967 working with directors - Bijon Chhaterjee, Sushila mishra., however upon his arrival to Bombay, he worked in Hindi theatre’s most celebrated plays with IPTA Mumbai, over the years, some of which included

Raman Kumar’s ’Ek Maamooli Aadmi’ based on Japanese Film maker Akira Kurosawa’s IKIRU.
Sathyu’s play ’Moteram ka Satyagrah’ based on Premchand’s moteram, is where Aanjjan brings about the hungry Pundit’s character alive. Moteram was first staged in 1989, and it continues to be running till date.
Aanjjan continues to do theatre with plays like Kashmakash, Moteram, Darindey, Aakhri Shamma, etc. Parallel to this, Aanjjan’s passion for Cinema makes him being recollected in Santoshi’s Pukaar, China Gate, Daamini, Ghatak, Lajja, Hallabol; in Mira Nair’s Salaam Bombay, Mississippi Masala, in Kundan Shah’s Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa, in some of NFDC’s ventures being Duttak, Dr. Baba Saheb Ambedkar, and Sazaa-e-maut. Hollywood Film ’Flavors’, Chak De India, Yuvvraaj, Run, What’s your Rashee”, Mittal v/s Mittal, |
Paathshaala, Tees Maar Khan, most recent Bengali film Ek Nadir Galpo: Tale of a River etc.
Sulbha Arya:
A veteran at IPTA and formerly a teacher by profession Sulbha Aarya is currently serving as IPTA’ Mumbai’s President.
She is completely merged with Theatre since decades.
Sulbha Arya’s contribution in film Industry runs in her family. Who can forget the masterpiece cinematographer Ishaan Arya for his notable contribution in the Indian Film Industry? This has even led to her sons following the footsteps. Remembered with her noticeable work in films like Hera Pheri, Kal Ho Na ho, Yuvvraaj, Mangal Pandey and most recently Marathi film Ventilator, she hasn’t stopped but most notable is Sulbha’s 17 to 70 years of age journey with IPTA. Throughout the years Sulbha ji has come to be known and acknowledged as a fully-fledged Stage actress. She has worked in some of the most notable plays with IPTA to begin with RM Singh’s Gudiya Ghar and Paper Weight to perfect portrayal of Geeta in Shatranj Ke Mohre, the classic Azar Ka Khwab to Sathyu’s classic Khalid Ki Khala as well as Basu Bhhattacharya’s ’Aap Kaun Hai, Kya karte hai, Kya Karna chahte hai’
Currently sulbhaji is doing the stage play Biwi O Biwi and Kashmakash and being a backbone as a president to IPTA Mumbai’s emerging generation of members.
AVTAR GILL:
Avtar Gill is an actor, known for Rangeela (1995), Airlift (2016), Aashiqui (1990) and Joker (2012). He acted in more than 300 films. Well known popular TV serial “Nukkad” has given him super-duper identity.
Having being doing theatre since College days, Avtar started working with IPTA in 1980 and in films a little before that (1979). Well acknowledged for his serials, Ye Jo Hai Zindagi, Nukkad in the DD era, Ek Duje Ke Vaste. He was even a contributor to the first satellite daily soap TARA on Zee TV. Till date he has successfully worked as an actor in more than 250 films and contributed not only in Hindi but also Punjabi, Marathi and Gujarati languages. You could easily spot him in Talwar’s Sawaal Zamana, JP duttas Ghulami, Hathyar, Batwara, LOC; Mahesh Bhatt’s Zakhm, Janm; Mukul Aanand’s AgneePath, Once upon a time in mumbai; Raman Kumar’s Sarhad Par, and recently in Wazir, Airlift, and many more and will also be seen in a Hollywood project Solar Eclipse.
Avtar Gill has been successfully doing theatre in IPTA’s oldest plays; he portrays a different shade of character in Kashmakash. He’s been involved with IPTA in its plays like TajMahal Ka Tender, Biwi-o-Biwi, Shatranj, Ek Baar Phir, and Hum Deewane Hum Parwane.
