Udupi : For the Udupi CMC limit it would be difficult to supply water after April this year that 32 cm water less than last year in Baje dam which will be providing water for Udupi CMC areas. The inflow from the Shiroor dam is very less. In the present situation, the water will be enough up to April with the pumping water from Shiroor dam. If rain comes during April, we can push supply of water in May. Therefore, it will be necessary to rationing water supply to the city, said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister in charge, Minister for Fisheries, Sports and Youth Empowerment.

He was speaking to media persons during his visit to Baje dam near here on Thursday, 16^th February that the government of Karnataka to address the water crisis has released Rs 102 crore under KUDCEP for improving the distribution lines, constructing eight overhead tanks and increasing of the water pumping capacity. As a backup power source, an express corridor line has been connected to the Baje dam from Manipal.

He said that the supply of water in alternate days becomes difficult as the supply line pipes becomes empty and more than 16 hours of additional pumping of water has to be needed, For the efficient water supply to CMC, it will take an effective decision to supply water to CMC.

A dam will be constructed in Shimbra to overcome water crisis in Udupi CMC. So, a hydrological survey needed and after the DPR report, tender will be initiated on the basis of the hydrological report for the construction of new dam at Shimbra, then the water crisis has sorted out.  

It is very difficult to provide water for farmers; the first priority will be drinking water to the people. There is shortage of water in Baje dam. Farmers should cooperate to provide the water for drinking purposes.
