Kemmannu: The much awaited Barge Ferrying service between Bengre and Hangarkatte was recently inaugurated by Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of Fisheries and Youth Affairs. It is a dream come true to the people of Bengre area who frequently travel to Hangarkatte on the opposite side of the river for their daily routines. The service reduces a distance of about 16 km if travelled on land through Kemmannu-Santhekatte-Brahamavar route.

The Barge can accommodate vehicles of any kind including cars, trucks and two wheelers. The subsidized ticket fare is Rs. 5 for individuals, 10 for Two wheelers and 25 for 4 wheelers. The cost of the Barge is said to be over One crore rupees.

Apart from the locals a lot of enthusiasts visit the port and take a joy ride to and from Hangarkatte in this scenic Delta area. Even though there are few people travel on weekly days, there is reasonable rush on Sunday’s and holidays. The one way trip takes about 10 minutes and Barge travels once a hour.

As a result of this floating road barge the traffic congestion at the sante katte junction is minimized. Smart move. Madwaaraj the problem solver. Created a few jobs too

From Moodahadu Kudru to Bennekudru the bridge and the roads were opened just 5 years ago. You reminded me blocking the entrance to the rivulet (thoad) at high tide and make the fish fly above the net into a borrowed boat as the tide lowers.

Once i caught one in my mouth. Then pick up showte from the water less thoads. Cheap way of catching fish. Nostalgic.

Kutti went to Kundapoora to buy menasu jeerige to cook this fish. But came home with maena suuji and ringe.

Cost Rs. 1 Crore, Rates per person Rs 5/= very cheap...

Schools can take their kids for a jolly ride (Picnic). Make use of the service and be a part to promote the tourism.
