Udupi, March 7, 2017 :  An achievement is under verification & consideration for GUINNESS WORLD RECORD by Kemmannite  Dr. PADUKUDRU LAXMINARAYANA RAO.

Dr. PADUKUDRU LAXMINARAYANA RAO (known as Dr. P.L.N. Rao among the student population) was born in 1941 in Padukudru village in Paduthonse , Udupi Taluk.

After completing the course, he came to Manipal in pursuit of a job. He met Dr. TMA Pai, the founder and Dr. A Krishna Rao, the then Dean of KMC.

Dr. Laxminarayana Rao was appointed as an asst. lecturer in the dept. of Physiology and started his teaching career, teaching students of Pharmacy, dental and medical courses. He soon gained popularity as a very good teacher and continued to teach MBBS, MSc. and MD physiology students. He was awarded the Best Teacher award four times during his teaching tenure.

Dr. L.N. Rao got his Masters degree in physiology under the able guidance of Dr. A Krishna Rao in 1972 from Mysore University and got promoted to various higher posts. He became HOD and Professor of Physiology, and in the year 1984, he was offered the vice principal’s post. In the following year, he became the dean of KMC in which post he continued to serve for 17 long years.

During his tenure as the dean of KMC, he was given the additional responsibility of taking care of the entire campus, which included looking after electrical, purchase, and water supply departments, allotment of quarters etc.

In the absence of Dr. Rarndas M Pai, the then Medical Director and present Chancellor of Manipal University, who used to travel extensively, Dr.Rao took care of the entire campus diligently. The flagship of the present Manipal University, Kasturba medical college, ranked one among the ten best medical colleges in India during his tenure. He thanks the support given to him by the heads, staff and students of all the institutions in Manipal.

During his deanship, he was nominated as a member of the academic council of Mangalore University and when Manipal University was formed, he was appointed a member of the board of management, the highest administrative body of the university.

He was a member of the Association of Physiologists of India, the Association of Physiologists and Pharmacologist of India and Karnataka and .Indian Medical councils. He also served as the Joint Secretary - Lion’s Club of Udupi and was an examiner for UG/PG students for Mangalore, Mysore, Kerala and other universities.

When KMC international Center was started, he was offered the position of the chairmanship of the physiology dept. in which post he continued for about 6 years.

Following this, he was appointed as the Registrar of Evaluation of Manipal University for 4 years 8 months, a challenging responsibility, very well carried out. Under his stewardship, examinations were carried on time and results were announced on the stipulated date. All India entrance exams were conducted in various centers all over India.

During all these years, he continued his teaching responsibility, gaining more and more popularity among his students and colleagues. He completed 50 years of his teaching career in August 2016. This achievement of Dr.P.L.N.Rao Is under verification & consideration for GUINNESS WORLD RECORD. During this period, he set several records. He was never late to class, never cancelled class and never took a complete day’s casual leave. He also helped many students with their learning process.

Highly disciplined, Dr. Rao was very strict, but liked his students immensely. Thousands of his students distributed all over the World remember him for his teaching-which was expressed during the alumini meet.

Today He is an emeritus professor of Physiology and continues to teach and guide UG/PG s

He has become an ardent leaner of the art of Yakshagana and is a budding performing artist under gum Sanjeeva Suvarna

He is also a member of the supreme governing bodies of

He was invited to Kuwait as visiting professor to teach university medical students and to Manipal Hospital Bangalore to teach basic nephrology to DNB students.

He is extremely happy that many of his students are highly placed in society and are settled all over the world. Dr. Rao transformed teaching into an art, one that he practiced with great dedication and commitment.
