Udupi : Dilip T.D. Jeweller merchant of Trissur, Kerala on 17^th March, 2017 was followed by a gang from Hiriyadka to traveling to Udupi with gold and cash amount in the local bus who forcefully made to alight near Downtown Bar at Manipal and he was threatened at gun point and forcefullykidnapped in a car. The gang later dropped off at Nadikoor near Padubidri after robbing him about 1500 grams of gold and cash of Rs. 2,57,200/- . Regarding this crime the Udupi police arrested a gang of seven and gold ornaments weighing 867 grams worth Rs 24 lakh and Rs. 60,000 in cash recovered and two cars also have confiscated, said K. t. Balakrishna, Udupi district Superintendent of Police.

Addressing to media persons in the press meet at S.P. office here regarding this crime the Hiriyadka Police registered under 364,395 IPC and 3, 25 Arms Act at Hiriyadka Police station. In this regard the police interrogated Dilip T.D. Jeweller merchant and gave information that he has been running the business of bringing gold ornaments from Trissur of Kerala for sale to shops in Mangaluru, Moodubidri, Karkala, Perdoor and Udupi in exchange for cash. He also make business at Uttar Kannada and Dakshina Kannada since several years.

SP said that this particular case considering very seriously, district police formed five teams to nab the robbers and find out the exact robbed assets.

During the investigation we now understand that such several gold merchants who come to the district from Kerala to conduct the sale of gold ornaments since several years and making such business.

He said that the investigating officer has asked the complainant and others involved to furnish documents to prove that the transactions with which they are involved are legal.

In this crime, Harikrishna Bhat aged 25 years, son of Vittal Bhat, a resident of Ugranibettu, Harikandige, 41^st Shiroor Grama, Udupi taluk runs a shop named Gayathri Jewellers at Perdoor. In this case the complainant the merchant Dilip visited his shop for selling ornaments business regularly. The main accused in the case Harikrishna Bhat knew very well that the said merchant Dilip carrying ornaments and cash in large alone without any helpers or others. Harikrishna Bhat made sketch and how to rob the said merchant and he formed a gang to rob him and Hirkrishna Bhat with the help of his accomplices robbed Dilip. And Harikrishna main accused knew that Dilip not taking anybody during his business. He used to wear jacket contains gold ornaments. Harikrishna Bhat knew about all regarding the gold merchant Dilip.

The other accomplices of main accused involved in this case are Mohd. Irfan (30) son of H. Mohd Saheb, a resident of Rumeja Manjil, Santhosh Nagar, Hemmadi Grama & Post, Kundapura Taluk. Javed (25) son of Basha Saheb, a resident of 4-62, Hosathona, Kola, Malpe, Kodavoor Grama, Udupi, Ashraf (34) son of Abbas Byari, a resident of Badriya Manjil, Vinay Nagar, Near Belapu Masjid, Belapu, Udupi. Ilahid (24) son of Iqbal, a resident of Santhosh Nagar, Hemmadi, Kundapura. Ravichandra N. (41), son of Nagaraj, a resident of Ayyappa compound, Nandanavana, Kergal Post, Kundapura and Sumath Kumar (24) son of Ramachandra, a resident of K. s. Nilaya, Kirimanjeshwara Post, Kundapura.  

During the time of kidnapping, Irfhan other main accused brought the car and forcefully seated in his car. SP said Irfan faces around few cases in Bhatkal and Ilahid faces charges in two cases. Ravichandran faces eight other cases. Illanid threaten Dilip with toy pistol which Dilip thought the pistol real one.

SP said that the jeweler merchant did not carry 1.5kg of gold which he had no bills along with him and he mentioned only random amount. We recovered 867 grams of gold.

He also said that the robbers had stolen gold to various merchants and the Harikrishna Bhat and Irgan kept Rs 5 lakhs for themselves and Rs 2 lakh was distributed with other accused. The recovered amount only Rs. 60,000/-

The operation and seizures were made under the directions of K. T. Balakrishna SP and under the guidance of N. Vishuvardhan Additional SP, S. J. Kumaraswamy Deputy Superintendent of Police carried on by DCIB unit Police inspector Sampat Kumar,  Brahmavar Circle Police Inspector Srikant, Kaup Police Circle Inspector V. S. Halamurthy, Hiriyadka Police Sub-inspector Vinayaka Billava and Padubidri Sub inspector Sathish, Srodjar Nambiyar ASI Kaup, DCOB unit ASI Rosario D’Souza and staff Ravichandra, Chandra Shetty, Ramu hedge, Santhosh Kunder, Suresh K, Ragavendra Uppunda, Praveen, Shivanand, Rajkumar Byndoor, Dayanand Prabhu, Driver Raghavendra, RDC department Shivanand Shetty, Srinithin were helped in the operation.

SP said that in appreciation of this achievement, Western Range Inspector General of Police Harishekaran has praised the Udupi Police and announced the cash reward for the operation team.
