Udupi : The first direct phone – in programme organized by the district administration succeeded and many queries related sorted out under the Priyanka Mary Francis, District Commissioner at Rajathadri, district offices complex here on Monday, 27^th March, 2017.

Since 10 am to 11 am there were 44 complaints forwarded and out of that one complaint related to D. K. district.

We walk 1.5 km to get water, please help us, says woman caller .
Complaints ranging from drinking water shortage to illegal sand extraction poured in at the first direct phone-in programme organised by the district administration at the District Offices Complex here on Monday. Most of the queries related to revenue department.

Ramesh Kotian, Dalit Sangharsha Samiti leader said that the students in the government hostel at Bannanje in Udupi were facing acute water shortage. He had brought the matter to the Udupi City Municipal Council. But there was no action had been taken. Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis ordered D. Manjunathaiah, CMC Commissioner to supply water through tanker to the hostel daily and directed the District Social Welfare Officer to submit a report on the action taken in the said complaint.

Manjunath, Secretary of Vidyavardhaka Sangha, Katpady told to DC that the school had 1400 students. The well at the school used to provide water to the Katpady Grama panchayat during the summer had this time dried and hence water was now required for mid day meals. DC Priyanka Mary Francis said that she would ask the Panchayat Development Officer in this regard and try to see the matter with solution.

A woman caller from Bijoor village said that they were not getting tap water for the last two months and had to walk about 1.5 km to get water from a well. “Please help us,” she pleaded. Ms. Francis said that she would direct the Executive Officer of Kundapur Taluk Panchayat to take immediate action. Srinivas from Ulloor village said that the people were facing problems from a crusher unit operating nearby and he also complained about sand extraction in the nearby river. Ms. Francis directed Shilpa Nag, Assistant Commissioner, to inspect the spot.

Several such water shortage complaints were heard by the DC and asked the various departments to find out the solution for the same.

A caller from Kundapur complained that there was a lot of gambling going on at several villages of the taluk. DC Priyanka directed the police to take action on it.

A caller complained in regard to many vehicles were too bright and this caused problems for people driving in the opposite direction. A caller requested to DC that atleast the top half of the headlights of vehicles should be blackened.

A call from Airody said that water was overflowing at the Primary Health Centre at Sasthan. Ms. Francis directed the Assistant Executive Engineer to immediately call the medical officer of the health centre and take steps to stop the overflow of water.

There were other complaints in regard to Crusher problem, BSNL phones, Due to dust around Byndoor, health of many people get effected, old buses running at Kundapura urban villages, illegal sand mining, safety of women and children, demand of ownership letter and so on.

Including G. Anuradha Additional Deputy Commissioner, all department officials were present during the most successful programme of District Administration.
