District Administration continue fight against illegal sand mining - Priyanka Mary Francis, DC

Udupi : In order to evacuate shelters and other infrastructure near river banks all over the district in an attempt to prevent illegal sand mining activities in the district, the illegal sand mining will be destroyed and district administration to continue fight against illegal sand mining, said Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district.
She was speaking during the meeting of task force at Deputy Commissioner Office, Rajathadi, Manipal said that the illegal sheds would be cleared and deadline has been set for the work inititated along with the police from Brahmavar, Kundapur and Byndoor.
DC also directed concerned officials to confiscate the boats, drudging macnines and cranes used for sand extraction and called for proper coordination among all the departments involved. She said that illegal sand mining would be stopped by taking stern actions if needed the CPC 144 section will be imposed in the district.
DC said that instructions have been issued to take stringent action under Section 110 and 107 of CPC against the illegal sand miners, the officer said that there is no scope for illegal sand accumulation in the patta land. Notices would be issued for those who have stores sand in their private land also.
She said that the officials should inspect the permits of the vehicles of other districts supplying sand to Udupi district. She told to officials that all necessary action on the illegal sand mining should be implemented within one week. The department officials concerned should work on war footing to stop illegal sand mining activities in the district within one week. The RTO should stop fining the lorries that transport the illegal sand and should cancel the permits of the lorries that carry the illegal sand, she said.
In order to the solution of sand shortage in the district, the PWD, the Mines and Geology Department and the KRIDL have ensured supply of sufficient quantity of sand. She said nearly 60,000 tons of sand is available at present in the district.
Priyanka Mary Francis said that the GPS should be compulsorily fitted into the lorries that carry out sand transport legally. The quality of sand that is available should be in standard mark. People concerned should check whether the officials posted at the check posts are regular on duty.
K. T. Balakrishna, District Superintendent of Police said that necessary squads have been formed to crackdown on the illegal sand mining. There will be separate squads are formed to moitor illegal sand mining in Kundapur. The police will extend all support to the district administration in its fight against sand mafia, he said.
