Udupi : Large bags contains plastic waste throwing out next to roads in Santhekatte area of Gopalpura Ward. CMC should take action against those who throwing plastic waste on streets and roads, said Chandrakanth Naik, Gopalpura Councilor of CMC.

He was speaking during the CMC meeting held at the Sathyamurthy Auditorium, Udupi here on Friday, 28^th April, 2017. Meanwhile Vasanthi Shetty CMC Councilor said that burning of plastic waste is leading to diseases in the city and now we can see burning of plastic waste in streets all the way. CMC should take action to those burning plastic waste which leading to environmental pollution and various health hazards.

Answering on burning of plastic waste, Manjunathaiha, Municipal Commissioner and Environment Officer  said that District Deputy commissioner has ordered to the police that seize plastic materials at the district border check posts. Plastic collection centers are needed to be formed for the collecting of excess plastic possessed by the public. DC has given instruction to Pollution Control Board to seize a firm in Koteshwar which producing plastic bags.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje CMC President said that the action will be taken against those who throw plastic waste materials from moving vehicles. Meanwhile a notification on waste management system will be published to give information on plastic waste. From next month onwards awareness programme on plastic use and its disposal will be organized by CMC.

Some members said that whichever work has undertaken in the wards, officials should inform such work to undertaken. But elected municipal councilors not information on the such works.

Some streets at Manipal area, street lights not operating since more than two weeks and need to be problem solved with street lights. Some members asked about the using flex materials during advertisement and other purposes. City Municipal Councilor said that fled materials will be banned in city limit and asked to print on cloth sheets instead plastic flex materials.

Janardhan Bhandarkar nominated councilor said that CMC should undertake the awareness programme on rain water harvesting due to shortage of drinking water in the city.

Sandhya Tilak Raj Vice president of CMC, Dr. M. R. Pai Opposition Leader, Yashpal Suvarna, Yuvaraj P., Kavitha Krishnamurthy and other among councilors were present.
