Udupi : School Children carrying vehicles should compulsorily follow all the government norms in favour of providing safety and security for school children. The government norms should be followed by vehicles owners, drivers and educational institutions, said Priyanka Mary Francis, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi district.
She was speaking during the meeting with vehicles owners, drivers, institutional heads, Regional Transport Officer, Educational department officials and police at DC office, Rajathadri, Manipal.
The school children carrying vehicles should have insurance policy, vehicle fitness record, first aid medicines box, emergency exist door and safety related records in order to safety in case of accidents. All the school children transporting vehicles should paint with yellow colour and should mention ‘School Vehicles’ on board in four places of the vehicles. Meanwhile the vehicles must establish speed governor and must keep in good condition. School vehicles should take board the students with permitted numbers, she said.
She ordered the RTO to undertake training on safe driving and other safety issues to the drivers. The school authorities should check the background of the driving also. Drivers should have valid driving license.
During rainy season the drivers should not be in hurry or in competition with other vehicles. Drivers should transport in time without any delay and drop children to the school as well as to the houses of the children. The schools as well as drivers keep the students address, contact address during emergencies, phone or cell numbers and other details. During the rainy reason some time it would not be possible to reach school on time. The school authorities should not put pressure on drivers to reach school on time, she said.
She ordered to Highway Authorities to put signal boards near to schools and those who drive in wrong sides or not maintaining road rules should be take severe actions by Highway patrolling police.
All the school authorities should conduct the children safety committee meeting in every three months. During the meeting parents, school authorities and the drivers should discuss the actions taken on students’ safety measures and to take the safety measures, she said.
She said district all government and private schools will be inspected regarding the children safety measures, their rights, the measures on POSCO rules and will be given Grade to the schools.
She ordered education officers to find out the dangerous queries, ponds and other dangerous places from the student and should submit the report to district administration and district administration take action on such dangerous places.
Regional Transport Officer Gurumurthi Kulkarni, DDPI Divakar Shetty and school representatives were present during the meeting.
