Husband of Udupi CMC councilor illegally selling tanker water to Kodandoor ward residents

Print Udupi : Residents of Kodandoor ward of Udupi City Municipal Council alleged that the husband of a councilor has been selling water here which supposed to be distributed free of cost through tankers by the CMC.
Ganapathi Shettigar, the husband of ward councilor Janaki Ganapathi Shettigar has been allegedly misusing the powers of his wife for the illegal distributing the water through tankers. An amount of Rs. 20 each is being collected from each of the poor and middle class families in Kodandoor ward. A local youth called Saleem asked Ganapathi regarding the taking the money, then he told that the money was for tea and coffee.
Under the KUDCEMP project for distribution of water under CMC limits huge amount has been set aside and the amount is used to pay tankers which supply water in all 35 wards.
Pramod Madhwaraj District Minister in-charge told to officials to distribute water through tankers for free with banners on the tankers carrying his image and denoting that the water supply which is free of cost. But when the matter has been brought to the attention of Pramod Madhwaraj, he said people not to pay money for water supplied through tankers. He told that to avoid corruption during the distribution of water, tankers should carry his image which denoting the water supply free of cost.
Pramod Madhwaraj asked the Municipal Commissioner Manjunathayya to take action against the tanker driver who has collected money from Kodandoor residents.
