Once again water crisis issue dominated Udupi CMC general meeting

Udupi : The drinking water crisis and the distribution of tanker water was the main issue during the monthly Udupi City Municipality council meeting held at Sathyamurthy Auditorium here on Tuesday, 30th May, 2017.

Dr. M. R. Pai, opposition councilor raised the issue that in Beedinagudde area plenty of water dispersed due to water pipe leakage and getting waste. He questions officials that even though there were plenty of shortfalls of drinking water, city municipality should find the solution of the water leakage and at least 10% of the water can be saved. He also said that some of the wards people complaining about the availability of tanker water. Raghavendra, Environment engineer said that the water connection in the municipal areas marginally increased. The officials working through out day and night in relate to distributing, dredging and so on. Due to very much shortfall of the rain this year, the problem of shortage of water arises. Most of the councilors appreciated the officials in regard to the hard work and the way the crisis handled. Some councilors said that in order to face the shortfall of rain in future, there should be need to harvesting the rain water at residences in municipal areas.

Dr. M. R. Pai and other BJP councilors said that the dredging in Baje dam would have solved the drinking water, then Manjunathaiha said that due to river basin people’s complaints, the dredging has temporarily stayed by the Deputy Commissioner.

Meanwhile Dinakar Shetty Herga said that there was report in local newspaper regarding the charging Rs. 20 from the Kodankoor ward people by the water tanker person and asked the clarification regarding the issue by Kodankoor councilor Janaki Ganapathy Shettigar. She said that there was no charged from the people in the ward. As per the report, District in-charge Minister asked Muncipal Commissioner Manjunathaiah for inquiry on the issue. Manjunathaiah said that there was no such charge taken from the people.

Janardhan Bhandarkar nominated Councilor said that lot of people in city bus stand area in the morning every day gathering and creating problems for all that dropping plastic materials and not keeping cleanliness.

Prashant Bhat ruling Councilor said that the contractor failed in maintaining the street lights and there was lot of irregularities in management of street lights. Most of the councilors demanded for rolling back of tender awarded to the contractor.

Meenakshi Madhav Bannange President of CMC said that the monsoon is almost approaching while the contractor will be given a month’s tome to attend the complaints and if the issues remain not solved, the tender awarded will be cancelled. Prashanth Bhat said that why action not taken against the contractor maintaining street lights for not attending the complaints. In reply President Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje said that action will be taken against the contractor when contractor fails to attend the complaints in regard to street lights problems.

Shashiraj Kunder Congress Councillor said that we have shortage of labour workers in the Municipality that four contract labour workers service terminated. The certain sections in CMC are closed down causing problems to the people at large.  In reply to the councilor, Municipal commissioner Manjunathaiah said that the terminating contract workers issue of administration and this matter not to discussed in the meeting. Shashiraj Kunder said that during the term of P Yuvaraj as CMC President, the officials were taken to task and held accountable for not performing their duties, but the present Meenakshi Bannanje regime officials are performing their duties as per their wish.

Ramesh Kanchan ruling Councillor said that due to the T.V. cables at the various streets on the electric poles and other facing severe problems for the public that some time T.V. cables fall down on the streets and solution should be taken on cables laying on the roads against the cable operators.

Vijay Manchi Congress Councillor said that the people are charged for the collecting waste from the houses, but some of the waste collectors neglecting the collection of waste from the  houses.

Sandhya Tilakraj Vice President, Celina Karkada, Prashanth Amin, Dinakar Shetty Herga and other councilors were present during the meeting.
