 Udupi : Choice for our food and our right to land, Mowadi Chalo Rally to be held on Monday, 12^th June, 2017. The movement will be organized by Karnataka Dalit Sanghersh Mahaokkuta, Karnataka Dalit Backward and Minority Association’s Okkuta, Koraga Associations Development Okkuta, District Muslim Okkuta, Bharatiya Christa Okkuta, Catholic Sabha, Karnataka Federations International Okkuta, Samatha Sainik Dal, Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike and other several associations.

Speaking to media persons at Udupi Press Club on Thursday, 8^th June, 2017, President of Dalit Sangharsha Samiti Uday Kumar Tallur said that on 25^th April some group of fundamentalists entered the Koraga community house of Hosadu Grama panchayat member Smt Shakunthala on middle of the night assaulted Koraga community people at house and called the police and in front of police assaulted on Shakuntala and others on the ground that cooked meat. Due to the engagement ceremony the meat was cooked at Hosadu, Mowadi near Byndoor.

The Police took three youths of Koraga community into custody. But no arrests of the accused belonging fundamental elements were made. Later absconded accused arrested after the Gangolli police filed a case on accused. Now the accused are out on bail and threatening Koraga community now and then.

On 12^th June in the morning 10 am, Mowadi Chalo rally will starts from near the Shakuntala’s house and jatha will proceed via Trasi to Kundapur. At 11.30 am public meeting will be organized at Shastri Circle, Kundapura. Bhaskar Prasad of Dalit Samiti and K. Ashok of Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike State secretary will present during the movement public rally.

The Movadi Movement rally demands that the extradition of the accused who had assaulted the Koraga Community in Hosadu, the state government should scrap the cases on the Koraga community through the cabinet meeting of the state, a special act should be formulated to protect the Dalits from atrocities, every Dalit family should get five cents of land and minorities, backward classes and Dalit should given protection from the attacks from vigilante groups in the name of cow protection.
