Udupi : Karnataka Rakshana Vedike staged protest in response to Karnataka Bhandh at the Clock Tower, near Service Bus Stand here at around 10.20 am on Monday, 12^th June, 2017.

The Karnataka Bandh called all over Karnataka in regard to waving farmers loan, to start Mahadahi project aand Mekedatu projects immediately, Kerala Governments anti Kannanda policies and sand crisis in the coastal Karnataka.

Addressing during the protest at Udupi, Ansar Ahmaed, President of Karnatka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), Udupi District said that the district in charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj failed to solve the sand crisis in Udupi district. He charged both district administration and district in charge minister to serious issue of sand shortage crisis and effecting the district in large. He said that the rainy season started and if permits to extract sand are issued now the permit holders can start to extract sand soon after the end of the ban period.

Prasannakumar Shetty, State Convener of KRV said that the response to band call given by KRV and other Kannada favoured organizations called today mixed. The KRV will not keep silent, but fight for in favour of Kannada language not stopped. We will fight for Kannada language speaking people’s cause. Maharastra Ekikarana Samiti continuously attack on Kannada and Kannada activists. Our demand is to ban on the activities of MES in Belgaum and other places in Karnataka by the Karnataka Government as well as Central Government. The state government has to assert its rights and execute projects like Mekedatu and Mahadahi projects as soon as possible.

Prasannhakumar Shetty also said that the sand shortage crisis in district is serious concern of the people. We have faith and confidence in the district administration. But we do not have faith and confidence in district in charge minister in solving the sand crisis in the district. He warned of holding district bandh if the sand crisis not solved within the month and stronger methods of protest will be held.

He said that there are people of all languages speaking live in Karnataka and there is no such problems for them and they have been given freedom to live as they wanted to and not putting pressure on them to speak in Kannada only. But In Kerala state not such like that. He demanded that Kerala Government should roll back of the policy of compulsory imposition of Malayalam on Kannadigas in Kerala. He warned that if Malayalm is made compulsory in Kerala, all Keralities in Karnataka will be driven back to Kerala.

Maraligagi Horata Samiti Convener M. G. Nagendra also spoke during the occasion and concerned about the price of the sand in the district.

The protesters then under the banner and flags of KRV wanted to symbolically block the highway. But police timely intervened them and stopped them from undertaking such blocking the highway. Ananthapadmanabha SI of Town Police Station along with other policemen not allow the protesters from going ahead with blocking the highway.

There was no impact on bandh call by the Kannada organizations in the city. Very few number of KRV activists participated during the protest. Heavy rainfall might be cause of less attendance of the KRV activists.
