Udupi : To a query to media persons, Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister of State for Commerce said on the beef exports issue that the government already banned the export of cow and calf meat. It is not true that India is the largest exporter of Beef.

Addressing to media persons on press meet at BJP office, Udupi on Friday, 16^th June, She said that as per the existing foreign trade policy the export of beef is totally prohibited and also bone in meat, the carcass of buffalo also prohibited and not even permitted to be exported. Only boneless meat is permitted to be exported.

Nirmala Sitharaman said that Goods and Service Tax (GST) will be implemented with all precautionary measurers after consulting all the stakeholders. All ministers gearing up for fighting the loopholes in the GST system. The people may have difficulties after the launch, respective ministries have their own network to work on the problems.

To a query on the problems of coconut growers, she said that the growers have not given a representation to the government. She will come to know only after understanding the problems of coconut growers. As far as areca nut growers is concerned the arecanut from Sri Lanka with much cheaper price and less quality has been imported and areca nut growers are being helped by increasing the import duty on acreca nut which has affected the marketing of the arecanut in the country,

Asking a query on every day increase in fuel prices, even though the crude oil price has come down. Then she said that oil marketing companies are given the liberty to fix the price reflecting the fluctuation globally. The government is spending a lot of money on transport infrastructure, The way of generating income is the core concern as the long term maintenance and development of transport system is most important. So that it is impossible to a complete reduction of oil prices even though globally less price of crude oil, she said.

Regarding the issue on the H-1B visas and cut down of job opportunities for overseas Indians in the US, the minister said that the prime minister will take up the issue along with the US President during the visit of our Prime Minister there, she said.
