Udupi : Vitiligo Awareness campaign Vitiligo Ratha is expected to reach Manipal-Udupi on 15^th July, 2017 at around 10.45am.

Addressing to media persons at Udupi Press Club on 14^th Friday, 2017, Dr. Sathish Pai Dermatologist of KMC, Manipal said that Vitiligo is a non life threatening skin related problem which presents as white patches on the skin. Vitiligo is a skin conditions which does not cause any symptoms like itch or pain to the patient. It is due to lack of melanocytes (skin color producing cells). Even though it is primarily a disease of lack of skin color, it can cause anxiety, depression to the patient due to the varied skin colors. Vitiligo is a non-contagious skin problem and is not spread by touch or sharing of objects.

He said that the Karnataka branch of Indian association of Dermatologists, Venereologists and Leprologists which observed the World Vitiligo Day on June 25, started a Vitiligo information awareness campaign in which a vehicle (Vitiligo Ratha) would travel all across all district of Karnataka to raise awareness and eliminate any myths or disinformation among general public about Vitiligo

The Vitiligo awareness programme commenced on June 25 at 10.30 am as part of the social service IADVL-Karnataka. Dr Mysore Venkataram, Dermatologist inaugurated the programme from the Town Hall, Bangaluru and showing the green signal to information Drive with Vitiligo Ratha, he said.

This Ratha will provide information on Vitiligo including what are the reasons for occurrence? Who can be affected? How does the skin appear? Advanced treatment modalities for Vitiligo, Truths and Myths about Vitiligo as well as other information on vitiligo will be provided to the general public. The Ratha will proceed from Udupi to Mangaluru. The KMC Dermatologists will present during the Vitiligo Vehicle and general public can interact with the doctors who present during the Ratha yathra.
