Udupi : Manjunathaiah, Udupi Municipal Council Commissioner said that he has spoken to the Directorate of Municipal Administration and its official will visit the city on August 12 to 14 in connection with the unruly behavior of the Congress Council in the last meeting.

He was speaking during the CMC general meeting held at Sathyamurthy Hall on 31^st July here after Vasanthi Shetty CMC Councillor asking what action was taken in the last meeting with the unruly behavior of the councilors. She said that CMC President Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje is solely responsible for the attack on the individual by Congress Councillors. There was uproar on the issue by the both opposition and ruling councilors.

Replying to the councilors, Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje CMC President said that it was the incident which completely sponsored the attack and it was a pre planned move by the BJP that to bring a bad name for the CMC. Replying to Vasanthi Shetty said that President had not done anything while unknown person entered during the meeting. It was the responsibility of the President to handle the issue.

Ruling councilor and former President of CMC said that BJP was enjoying watching the assault by clapping hands and BJP blocked the president to interfere during the time. Then, there was severe uproar in the council meeting. Later CMC President Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje asked the CMC members to calm down and asked the Municipal Commissioner regarding the action taken by the Municipality and told to the council that DMA will visit the city on August 12 to 14 and will discuss the issue effectively discussion.

Harish Ram BJP councilor said that sewage overflows when rainwater enters the manholes which several areas are stinking. The temporary measurers such as patch works do not sustain a long time. Supporting him Dr. M R. Pai also said that the apartments and hospitals also contribute to the unhygienic conditions with massive sewage.

Replying to, Manjunathiah said that the old manholes are of poor quality and only 10 feet pipe are installed with the couplings which end up in sewage in the midst of bricks that are used for the construction. Effort is being made to find a solution to the issue as the government has released Rs. 370 crore for Underground Drainage works and drinking water projects. He also said that new ways to strengthen the manholes are being devised and Detailed Project Report is being prepared, Meanwhile a preliminary survey has been taken up.

Commissioner said that the problem of UGD seepage, it is prevailed in all wards and hence meeting will be held in each ward to ensure proper awareness on recycling and reusing the drainage water.

Prashant Amin councilor said that CCTV has to be installed near the Raj Fish Mill that people were dumping waste there. Replying to commissioner said that the capacity of the CCTV that more than 20 feet it has difficult to focus, but necessary action will be taken and CCTV will be installed.

Narayan Kunder said that there was severe problem of drinking water during April May last year. So CMC should take precaution measures in regard to the drinking water problem. Replying to Commissioner said that four blocks are identified for dredging in the Baje dam. Udupi district deputy commissioner has written a letter to the government and also district in-charge minister Pramod Madhwaraj is in consultation with the state government to get necessary approval on initiating dredging in the Baje dam.

Nominated CMC Councillor Janardhan Bhandarkar said that due to unscientific work at NH 66, Kallianpur Santhekatte junction, plenty of accidents took place. There are no bus stands in the area. What actions are taken to transfer of Santhekatte Kallianpur market location? Replying to Manjunathaih said that we had discussion with NH Assistant Engineer regarding the temporary establish of three bus stands. Already the public lavatory has in final stage to inaugurate. In regard to public market, already the location near Veerabhadra Adishakti temple proposed. The proposal market which consists of 1.22 acres and out of those 33 cents belongs to Municipality. Assistant Commissioner Shilpha Nag has already given permission to hold weekly market in that place. After the completion of necessary facilities and basic needs for the public, the weekly market will be transferred soon.
