Udupi : At the cost of Rs. Two crore the permission has given to open Sports Science Centre in Udupi district, said Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Sports and Youth Empowerment.

Speaking in his inaugural address of National Sports Day at Town Hall here on Tuesday, 29^th August, 2017 which was organized by Department of Sports and Youth Empowerment, Physical Education Department, Dr. G. Shanker Government Women’s First Grade College and Post Graduate Study Centre, Ajjarkad, Lions Club Parkala and Various Sports Association.

He said that in fact he had given lot of partiality towards various sanctions in the field of Sports to the Udupi district rather compare to other part of the state. Siddaramaiha government declared two Sports Science Centers’ in the state, one is in Bangaluru and other one is in Udupi district at the cost of Rs. Two crore each and as such already has given permission to establish the same. The advantages in these Sports Centers that production of nutrition foods, research of needed medicines, medical care for the injured sportsmen and various ways to improve the achievements of the sportsmen.

The state government kept aside Rs 286 crore for the sports. Sports Hostels for sportswomen are established at the cost of Rs. one crore at four places in the state. Meanwhile in the international standard two modern and well equipped gymns will be established in Bangaluru and Udupi. Earlier 14 swimming pools I the state given as a contract for private parties for maintenance which was cancelled and the sports department taken over the these swimming pools and earned Rs 67 lakhs in just two months. Meanwhile the government also taken over from private parties in supplying food materials for the sports hostels and arranged to give good nutrition food goods. In order to overcome any problems in relate to supplying food materials and other in the hostels, for the complaint or any other matters and purpose important telephone numbers including me  and officials given, he said.

He said that the government proposed to provide support to the sports association along with achievers of sports and from this year Rs 5 lakh for 10 sports associations will be awarded and honoured for them. He asked to the capable sports associations to apply the same.

The work in progress of Lawn Tennis courts in Udupi at the cost of Rs. 4 crore which will be completed within two months. The proposal is sent to central government to establish international level swimming poor at Nejar, Udupi. The land of 6.5 acres for the cricket stadium has proposed at Brahmavar. The athletic academy at the cost of Rs. 2 crore and Swimming Academy at the cost of Rs 1 crore to be started soon.

During the occasion national level athletics’ Prajna K and Afridi were felicitated for the achievements. Rs. 90,000 for the schools and Rs. 10,000 for physical education teachers of High Schools awarded during the occasion. Rs 4.5 lakh cheque distributed to 15 Youth Mandals during the occasion.

Dinakar Baby ZP President, Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje CMC President, Prof. Jagadish Rao Principal of Dr. G. Shanker Government First Grade Women’s College, Harish President of Parkala Lions Club and various Associations Presidents and officials were present on the dais.

Earlier Dr. Roshan Kumar Shetty, Asst Director of Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Udupi district spoke introductory speech and welcomed the gatherings.
