Tourism Department to introduce floating restaurant in Malpe soon

Udupi : Anitha B R., Assistant Director of District Tourism Department told to media persons that the Malpe Beach will be transformed into lucrative tourism destination. In order to enhance the beauty of the area, several programmes are being designed.


She said that the major focus would be on the adventure sports which will take off shortly. Tourism Department is taking up several measures and the most ambitious being the floating restaurant at Malpe Beach.
Anitha said that floating restaurant will be an icing on the cake for the visitors who can relish food as well as the beauty of beach beside the adventure sports as well. The Tourism department being submitted to the government a design plan worth of Rs. 70 lakh to utilize the available tourism potentials which boost the tourism business at an effective range.
She said that the floating restaurant will be mesmerizing venture which is envisaged at the cost of Rs. 4 crore. At a time 100 people can accommodates in a huge floating boat. The tender is yet to called for the construction of the boat and proposal also is submitted to the state tourism department.
Nirmiti Kendra Project Director Arun Kumar said that a Maharastra based company called SDM Architect has prepared the design and the estimate project report is done by the Nirmiti Kendra in Udupi. He said that the district would be second only after Goa in this sea stretch to house a floating restaurant.
The floating restaurant will have all the basis facilities similar to that of any restaurant like kitchen, dining hall etc. Meanwhile the restaurant will offer and panoramic view of the sea. The tourism department is working on possibilities to place the boat in the sea. The areas being considered are Malpe, Padukere and St Mary’s Island.
Anitha said that the unique experience wherein the huge waves come and hit the bottom of the baot and break down to form the layers of foam will definitely give exceptional opportunities for the enthusiasts to celebrate their birthdays and celebrations and can organized in the middle of the sea. One side would have a long lasting view of golden white sand which is constantly caressed by the waves.
She said that as per the data available with the district tourism department, on an average 75 to 76 lakh tourists including foreigners visit the district every year.
Padukere – Malpe bridge has been recently constructed will enable the vacationers to have an easy accessibility to the virgin beach of Padukere which makes a delightful sightseeing with natural bounty in the surrounding.
