Rahul Gandhi to participate in Fishermen Congress Convention on 21st Nov at Karwar

Udupi : Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is expected to attend in a massive Fishermen Convention to be held held on 21st November, 2017 Karwar in Uttara Kannada, said U R Sabhapathy, KPCC Chief Secretary and former MLA of Udupi.

 

He addressing to media persons at Udupi Press Club on Thursday, 19th October said that the national level delegates and large number of party leaders will be present in the convention with more than 70,000 fishermen are expected to attend.

U R Sabhapathy was appointed as President of Karnataka State Fishermen Congress and said that the Fishermen Congress will work on the instructions of Rahul Gandhi and a meeting will be held in every district and also block level committees to be formed.

 

The main objective of the Fishermen Congress is to formation of a separate policy for fisheries. There is no separate Ministry for Fisheries in Central government as there are separate Fisheries Ministries in state. The fisheries department is under agricultural department in central government. There is no uniform policy is in national level. Hence there has been the scope for the misunderstanding between the states and the central government as well. The Fishermen Congress urged the central government to formation of the separate ministry in the Union government which will be helpful larger to the community of fishermen in the country and various states.

 

He said that even though some fishermen from Christian and Muslim communities, the fishermen socially and economically very weak and hence Fishermen should include in ST category and hence they can develop in their life. Earlier there was recommendation by the state government to consider the fishermen under SC/ST category. But the Union government rejected the recommendation.

He said on answering the question about contesting elections that he told several times that he is not contesting the upcoming assembly elections. I am working for the congress party and will continue as same.

He said even though there is very less price for the crude oil in international market, the prices of the diesel comparatively more. The congress government was introduced diesel subsidy for the fishermen in the country. About 23 lac fishermen are residing in the state. They should get atleast 10 seats in the assembly election in the state.

The Karnataka State Fishermen Congress includes eight vice presidents, seven general secretaries, a treasurer, five assistant secretaries, six secretaries, four organizing secretaries and 21 executive committee members, he said.

He said that District Fishermen Congress Committee President from eight districts. Manoj S Karkera Kundapura of Udupi district, Mohan Bengre Mangaluru of D.K., Manjunath Bovi of Haveri, Manjunath Balappa Bheemakka, Dharwad rural, Malakappa Siddappa Jeratagi, Bijarpur, B. Lingayya Mandya and Basavarajappa R of Davanagere.

The vice presidents are J Srinivasan Bengaluru, Dr. Choudhar Bijapur, Lingaraju Bangaluru, Keshav Kundar Udupi, Rama M Mogera Bhatkal, Hiriyanna Kundapura, Sarala kanchan Udupi, and Shekhar Suvarna Mangaluru.

The Fisheries Minister of the State Pramod Madhawaraj is the Hon. Member of the State Fishermen Congress Committee.

Keshav Kundar Vice President, Rama M Mogera Bhatkal, Sarala kanchan, Udupi, Shekar Suvarna Mangaluru Vice Presidents were present during the press meet.
