Minister Pramod Madhwaraj performs ‘Guddali Pooje’ for widening Kemmannu Road.

Kemmannu November 04:
It could be the end of long wait to have a wide and modern Kemmannu  road as the ‘Guddali Pooje’ was performed for the widening of the main road from Gudiyam to Kemmannu Bridge. The work of the 30 feet wide road is expected to begin soon as the tender is already awarded to contractor Muniyalu Udaykumar Shetty.

Later at the gathering held at the church hall, Mrs. Veronica Cornelio delivered the introductory speech and briefed about the long consultative meetings held in the last 6 months about the widening of the road and the progress about the land and space acquisition.

In his speech Mr. Pramod said that the proposed developmental work from Kemmannu to Bengre at a cost of 4 crores is done under the Central Road Projects and there is no provision to provide compensation any sort to the land or building owners. He also said that as such there will be no compensation to land acquisitions all over India in the future and in this case the contractor has agreed to part some compensation from his profit. He called upon building owners to sacrifice a bit of their space for a better society which in turn will bring them grace and happiness about creating a better future for ourselves.

Even though the contract has been awarded and 90% of the building and land owners have agreed to part their space, there are still a few building owners who have not made up their mind yet without getting due compensation. Without their approval still the work can hang on balance.

Z P member Mr. Janardhan Thonse, Kemmannu Panchayat President Mr. Fauzia Sadiq, Kallianpur Panchayat President Mrs. Pushpa Kotian, Kemmannu Church Parish Priest Fr. Victor D’ Souza and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

All those truckloads of 500 and 1000 Rupee notes could have been used to compensate land losers for the road, if only these notes had ever visited a temple or church collection box!

By widening the road more customers can shop with ease. Easy parking? No business will run without buyers. No religion without devotees. Should I go on? Long term loss difficult to comprehend.

Road widening work should start atleast from Hampankatte to Hoode as the first priority. And here few shop owners and their family fully dependent on their shops for their livelyhood. So should take care of their demands as well.

As per information Kemmannu road is still a private road, not transferred from the donors to PWD. This process could take years to complete. It may be same from Santhekatte to Kemmannu. Hopefully these things will be sorted out some day.

Meantime this stretch of road from church to bridge is a priority.

Why it’s Gudiam to Kemmannu. The road should be widened atleast from Santhekatte Cross or from Hampankatte. It is easy to widen since there are not much buildings on roadside and only cocunut fields on this stretch.

If one has good honest intentions God will intervene, that’s exactly what has happened in the case of Kemmannu road widening. What once thought impossible could be a reality soon.

It is by the divine intervention and a blessing to be able to share a portion of God’s property for the neighbours good. I heard somewhere Alexader the great was burried with open empty hands to say he could not take anything with him what he plundered.
