Udupi : The chief Minister of Karnataka Siddaramaiaha inaugurated the new building of Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Haji Abdulla Memorial Maternity and Children’s Hospital, Government of Karnataka here on Sunday, 19^th November, 2017.

The new building was constructed with the memorandum of understanding (MoU), the state government and NRI businessman Dr. B. R. Shetty owned BRS Health Research Institute Pvt. Ltd. (BRSHRI).

The new building of KSSHA Memorial Maternity and Children’s Hospital was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by the chief minister Siddaramaiha. Health Minister Ramesh Kumar, District in-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Kaup MLA Vinayakumar Sorake, State Minister K. J. George, State Minister U. K. Kadar, MLC Ivan D’Souza, CMC President Meenakshi Madhav Bannanje, Dr. B. R. Shetty and other among were present during the inauguration.

The stage programme was held at Board School premises near Service Bus stand here after the inauguration of the new building of the hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, Siddaramaiha said, “ Last year at the end of October, I had come for the foundation laying ceremony of this government hospital and that time Dr. B. R. Shetty promised me that the new building project for the hospital will be completed within a year. Meanwhile as per the promises, Dr. Shetty has fulfilled his promise. But some of the works not completed and will be done by 15^th January, 2018.

There should not be confusion that this project belongs to Dr. B. R. Shetty’s private hospital. It remains as a government hospital. The existing 70 bedded Maternity and Children Hospital upgraded with 200 beds for the poor which will be fully free with five star facilities for the poor people.

He said a super specialty hospital will be built at the place of old hospital premises. There is no scope for any doubt regarding free treatment or not. BPL cardholders like now, will be given free treatment. He said APL cardholders will also get treatment with partial payment. The money generated from that will be used to free treatment for BPL cardholders, he said.

He said, ”Smt. Indira Gandhi successfully implemented 20 point program with the intention of ‘garibi hatao’ and worked for the empowerment of poor people of the country. It would be great opportunity to implement the canteens in the name after Indira canteens. As many as 500 Indira canteens will be established in Bengaluru. Already 200 canteens will be established prior to December end. Our target will be to open one canteen to every one lakh of population.

CM said that the opposition BJP holding Parivarthana rally and saying they will make Congress Free in Karnataka. But our slogan is to make Karnataka as hunger free state. The so called Parivarthana rally of BJP nothing done for them. They should think first about their change who change communal tension in the state.

Siddaramaiha was symbolically launched Indira Canteens in Udupi to mark centenary birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The congress intention is to open Indira Canteen in every district, taluk headquarters.

The entire state will be open defecation free while Udupi also declared as open defecation-free district by 2^nd October, 2018 with the efforts of district administration.

The health minister Ramesh Kumar said that he inspired the Satya Sai Seva Trust of Andhra Pradesh. There I saw free treatment giving for the people at large. Then I thought why it would be not possible in Karnataka. I called to Pramod Madhwaraj and asked him regarding the availability of land for the establishing government hospital with the help of private persons in Udupi. We met Dr. B. R Shetty and approached him and provided the land for the purpose. This hospital completely remains government one. The Deputy Commissioner will monitor the hospital and form the committee for the same. As per the MoU, we found violation of the MoU, the government has the right to take it back.

Ramesh Kumar said that the doctors of the state placed their demands against the KPME Bill. We are totally in favour of poor people of the state and meantime the bill is not against the doctors. He will come again for the formal inauguration supposed to held on 15^th January, 2018.

Dr. B. R Shetty also spoke during the occasion and his intention to start the hospital in his home town of Udupi to get quality health care. We have more than 88 hospitals in different part of world. I have no intention to make business here. But as per my parents to get eternal peace, I thought it is better to have quality hospital to my birth place.

Pramod Madhwaraj also spoke his keynote address and welcomed the gatherings. Manhor Prasad compered the programme.
